Tottenham Hotspur may already be planning for the January window despite completing a major rebuild of their squad during the summer.Just over a month into the new season, there are already questions over whether Tottenham have got their summer recruitment right.Spurs have struggled for goals while also looking shaky at the back, and it appears that there are big holes that need to be filled in the squad despite the club’s nearly £400m outlay on new signings during the summer window.Reports are already suggesting that Tottenham are looking at various strikers on the market ahead of January, which is not surprising given their struggles in front of goal so far this term.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramDavid Ornstein reveals if Lewis family’s cash injection could fund January Tottenham spending spreeThe Lewis family recently injected further £120m capital into Tottenham, with the family having taken a more direct interest in the club since Daniel Levy was ousted over a year ago.However, David Ornstein is not sure if that capital injection is a precursor to another big transfer spend during the upcoming window for the club.The journalist pointed out that the right players can be hard to find in the market during the winter, and suggested that Tottenham may not find the right fit for the positions they want strengthened.Ornstein told The Athletic: “The Lewis Family Trust has injected further funds into the club, and that’s for a number of areas: running costs, cash flow, day-to-day upkeep, recruitment, player salaries and so on. So the transfer market is part of that. They’ve already invested quite heavily for the first time in, what?, 25 years, and we saw a spectacular summer.“They seem intent on continuing to try to improve the squad. Will that happen in January? It is not a good market at the best of times, and you saw a year ago, having retaken control after Daniel Levy’s departure, it was just Conor Gallagher who came in, and there was a departure of Brennan Johnson. He wasn’t replaced. It does not tend to be a busy window.“Also, everybody is saying they need a striker. Are there any names that are coming to the fore as being realistic candidates? There weren’t many around in the summer, so you imagine they will be even harder (to find) if that’s the position Tottenham want to recruit in January.”Ornstein says Spurs will be open to right opportunities in JanuaryHowever, The Athletic reporter did not rule out the possibility of Spurs making a signing or two in the upcoming transfer window.He suggested that Roberto De Zerbi’s men will be alive for potential opportunities and have the funds to pounce if the right player becomes available.Ornstein added: “There is no decision — to my knowledge — not to recruit. There are always possibilities, and there are so many factors and circumstances between now and January, so I would not rule it out. But I don’t know of any concrete plans to hit the market hard again. January is tough; they did a lot in the summer, they will probably do a bit more next summer.“And there’s the significant factor of players coming back from injury — the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert; the returns of Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison are relatively recent. There’s not much squad space. So for players to come in, some will have to depart. What will happen with Richarlison? Is he going to be reintegrated — which would require a space in itself — or will he leave?“There is a lot that needs to happen internally in January. I don’t know of a massive January coming up (at Spurs).
