Robotics and digital fabrication are bringing new techniques to traditional stone carving, as demonstrated by a full-scale marble statue of the Greek goddess Tyche completed by Robotor in Carrara, Italy. The company used a Computer Numerical Control system and a multi-axis robotic arm to carve the sculpture from a solid block of Carrara marble. AI-powered software helped calculate tool paths, while diamond-coated milling heads removed most of the excess stone. Human sculptors completed the final surface adjustments after the automated process.
