[Hiring] 2D Fantasy Artist for Mobile Game – Environment Backgrounds + Boss Character $500-$1000 budget

Hi! I'm a solo developer working on a casual fantasy dice-adventure game The game is already playable and I'm currently looking into replacing the premade/placeholder artwork with original commissioned art. I'm looking to get quotes for the artwork for one complete world initially. If things work out well, there would potentially be multiple additional worlds in the future, and I'd ideally like to maintain a consistent art style throughout the game. What I'm looking for World 1 currently consists of roughly 5–7 stages leading up to a boss encounter. I'd like the environments to give the feeling that the player is actually traveling through the same region rather than seeing unrelated backgrounds. For example, World 1 could progress something like: Open fantasy plains → forest entrance → deep forest → signs of Goblin territory → Goblin-controlled area → approach to boss → boss area I'm looking for finished environment backgrounds, rather than a tileset or collection of individual environment pieces that I would need to assemble myself. I would also need one Goblin boss character for the final encounter. The boss would appear within the environment during gameplay. Art direction The current prototype uses pixel art, but I am NOT looking for pixel art for the final game. I'm looking for something: • Colorful and vibrant • Stylized fantasy • Friendly/inviting for a casual audience • Adventurous rather than dark or gritty • Detailed enough to make the world interesting without becoming visually overwhelming on a mobile screen • Not photorealistic • Not overly childish The game is played in portrait orientation, but the environment itself occupies a wide horizontal section of the screen above the main gameplay area. I'll attach a screenshot of the current prototype so you can see exactly how the artwork is used. I don't need programming or implementation work. I can import and position the finished artwork in GDevelop myself. For your quote, I'd appreciate: • Portfolio/examples of relevant environment or game artwork • Approximate price for the entire World 1 scope • What that price would include • Cost per additional background/variation if applicable • Whether the Goblin boss character is included or separately priced • Approximate turnaround time • Number of revisions included • Final file formats/resolution • Whether commercial usage rights are included • Whether source/layered files are included If the first world goes well, I'd potentially be interested in commissioning additional themed worlds and bosses from the same artist later. Thanks! Feel free to comment or message me with your portfolio and an approximate quote. submitted by /u/MajinJDB [link] [comments]
