Ex-servicemen, widows in Telangana to get higher welfare grants, new assistance schemes approved - The HinduPublished - September 25, 2026 12:30 am IST - HYDERABADA meeting of the State Managing Committee of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund was held under the chairmanship of Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday, September 24 | Photo Credit: Special ArrangementFinancial assistance for ex-servicemen, widows and their dependents in Telangana is set to increase, with the State Managing Committee of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund approving higher education, disability, marriage and special-child grants along with new welfare schemes.The decisions were taken at a meeting of the State Managing Committee held under the chairmanship of Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday, September 24.Among the key decisions, the education grant for children of ex-servicemen from Class 1 to degree level was increased from ₹10,000 to ₹17,000. The monthly financial assistance for 100% disabled ex-servicemen was also enhanced from ₹15,000 to ₹18,000.The Committee increased the monthly assistance for children with special needs of ex-servicemen as well. The grant for special children below 15 years was raised from ₹6,000 to ₹8,000, while the assistance for those above 15 years was increased from ₹9,000 to ₹10,000. The marriage grant for daughters of ex-servicemen was also enhanced from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000.Besides increasing existing assistance, the Committee approved several new welfare measures. Under the mobility assistance scheme, ex-servicemen who are unable to walk will be eligible for reimbursement of 50% of the cost of a three-wheeler motorised vehicle or a three-wheeler wheelchair, subject to prescribed conditions.A new assistance scheme was also approved for children of ex-servicemen with special needs who are studying in recognised special schools. Under the scheme, 50% of the school fee will be reimbursed, subject to eligibility. The Committee also approved a medical grant of ₹1 lakh for eligible ex-servicemen or widows who are not receiving a pension, in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.The Governor directed officials to minimise documentation requirements for beneficiaries and ensure that financial assistance is transferred directly into their bank accounts wherever feasible.
