Europe's juveniles take centre stage this weekend, with Newmarket's G1 Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes and G1 Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Cheveley Park Stakes the main draw along with some intriguing tests for the 2027 Classic prospects.While the omission of the Coventry winner Great Barrier Reef (No Nay Never) and the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes hero Folsom Blues (Blue Point) leaves the Middle Park a bit lighter than appeared likely earlier this week, it was probably always going to play second fiddle to the fillies' race given the way the action has played out over recent weeks. The six-strong Cheveley Park sees a couple of heavyweights face off in Sun Goddess (Sioux Nation) and Senorita Bonita (Starspangledbanner), who have both touched the sphere of the spectacular during the summer with no quarter expected and none given on Saturday.Illuminating a relatively gloomy spell for Ballydoyle in August and September, Sun Goddess has gone from The Curragh to York and back again without a hint of hassle, brushing aside the likes of Folsom Blues and Green Empress on varying surfaces with a sizeable bit of trouble-in-running thrown in on the Knavesmire for good measure. Where Alpha was at the pecking order in early summer, it is now the daughter of ever-rising sire sensation Sioux Nation who is the undisputed alpha female of Rosegreen.Senorita Bonita hasn't met Sun Goddess yet, but she has encountered her stablemate Victorious at Royal Ascot and came off second best over five furlongs before turning into a monster over this six in the Prix Morny. In between, she got the better of Libertango (No Nay Never) in the Duchess of Cambridge on the July Course and it has to be remembered that Libertango beat Sun Goddess in the Albany so where that leaves everything is anybody's guess. There will be strong opinions either way and fence-sitters in equal measure, but this acute test with its rollercoaster crescendo will provide the answers.Joint trainer Ed Crisford told Tattersalls of his filly, “We've been really pleased with Senorita Bonita since her win in the Prix Morny and she's trained really well into the Cheveley Park, we've all been very happy with her. It looks like it's going to be a cracking race and it's just nice to have a filly that's good enough to take part in a race of this quality.”George Boughey said of Libertango, “The form lines do tie in pretty closely with all three of them. I thought we would probably be a slightly shorter price than we are, but we have been beaten by Senorita Bonita and Aidan's filly was obviously seriously impressive at the Curragh the other day, so I do kind of see the way the market has formed.”“One or two things might have changed from the July Course to here—I think in hindsight we might have been a bit easy on her into Newmarket after Ascot,” he added. “She's a filly who takes plenty of work and she's rock-hard fit now. By Billy's own admission, he might have hit the front half a furlong too soon and she just wandered around at Newmarket. That's why we were so keen to get her to be produced as late as possible at York, as she was at Ascot.”Back to the Middle Park, where the unbeaten Push The Boat Out (Kodi Bear) bids to benefit from Great Barrier Reef's withdrawal following his encounter with the Ballydoyle runner in the Round Tower which saw him come out marginally on top with five pounds less weight on his back. Ace Stud's acquisition has given the impression on both starts so far that he has something left in the tank and he may be one of those that is continuously underestimated.O'Callaghan said, “We're looking forward to running Push The Boat Out in the G1 Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes on Saturday, he's unbeaten, and he beat the Coventry winner [Great Barrier Reef] on his second start. He's a very good horse and we're looking forward to the race.”Godolphin's Inner City Blues (Blue Point) is also a Group winner who is two-for-two, but there was no Great Barrier Reef in the July Stakes and he has to step up again while probably the race's real class act is the Norfolk winner Orthodox (Havana Grey) who can and should be forgiven a flop in the Morny.Earlier on Saturday, the G2 Tattersalls Online Royal Lodge Stakes sees the pair of Too Darn Hot colts Burning Up and First Law head to post for the mile contest with very recent history providing a curious link. Like last year's winner, the behemoth Bow Echo, both are two-for-two with the Karl Burke-trained Burning Up carrying the colours of the Late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid and Godolphin's First Law having won followed Bow Echo's footsteps in Haydock's Ascendant Stakes.In all probability, that is where any comparison with the Boughey superstar ends with this far from a match given that the latter's trainer Charlie Appleby has a colt with better credentials in the Golden Fleece third Quest For Stars (Sea The Stars). Aidan O'Brien has the Acomb winner Haffner (Justify), but all at Coolmore will also be watching Quest For Stars given how their latest Triple Crown prospect Darkness Falls treated him and co at Leopardstown last time.Friday's card at Newmarket features the seven-furlong G2 Rockfel Stakes for the two-year-old fillies, where Juddmonte's exciting TDN Rising Star Spirited Gesture (Kingman) takes on Wathnan's Prestige Stakes winner Light Of Dawn (Showcasing) and the Sweet Solera winner Sugar Yes Please (Mohaather) and some other unexposed types.Barry Mahon said of Spirited Gesture, “She's a beautiful filly with a great pedigree and being a sister to Coppice and Calyx, John and Thady know the family well. She looked really good the first day, albeit she probably didn't learn much and Rab [Havlin] thought she was very green again at Newcastle, so hopefully she will have improved from that.”“Going into a Group 2, she will have to have improved in terms of her being streetwise,” he added. “You would have liked to have had a third run going into a race like this, but the ground came up very soft at Goodwood when we were hoping to run her. But her work at home is good and we're hopeful of a good run.”Eve Johnson Houghton said of Sugar Yes Please, “This will probably be her last run this year, but I would like to think she will go there with a really good chance. She deserves a step up in class. She has won a Group 3, so the next thing you have to go for is a Group 2.”Wathnan's Richard Brown has warned that Light Of Dawn may miss the gig if the ground is deemed too firm. “She won well and enjoyed the move up to seven in the Prestige and we're looking forward to seeing her again, but we will keep an eye on conditions and she won't run if the ground is too quick.”Also out in force on the afternoon is Godolphin's St James's Palace Stakes third Talk Of New York (Wootton Bassett) in the G2 Joel Stakes as he is prepared for a potentially big autumn campaign. “I'm very happy with him and he comes here in great order,” Charlie Appleby said. “I think the make-up of the race will suit him and on what he has achieved, if he is anywhere near the level he was earlier in the summer, he should be the one to beat.”Completing the portfolio of Classic market-shaping races on the weekend is Saturday's G2 Beresford Stakes at The Curragh, where the impressive Punchestown winner and TDN Rising Star Noble Exhibit (Frankel) is one of a trio charged with providing Aidan O'Brien with an astonishing 23rd renewal of the mile feature.
