Fall manicures used to follow a fairly predictable script: summer ends, burgundy comes out, and everyone quietly waits for December glitter. Fall 2026 is behaving differently. Nail artists are talking less about one must-have color and more about what happens when light hits the nails—jelly translucency, magnetic shimmer, chrome and glassy top coats are giving familiar autumn shades a completely different personality. Celebrity nail artist Elle Gerstein says this season’s colors are getting “deeper, warmer, smokier, and more dimensional,” while finishes such as jelly and cat-eye keep even dark shades from looking heavy. That makes the gel manicure especially useful right now: the glossy surface plays beautifully with the season’s richer colors, while nail art is swinging between tiny minimalist details and unapologetic metallics.
