Harry Kane has been backed to pursue a secondary career in the NFL by former striker turned placekicker Clive Allen.The England captain floated the idea of joining Major League Soccer, in order to serve as a bridge towards becoming a specialist kicker in American football.Harry Kane may have a future in the NFL after his illustrious football career is overAFPThe Bayern Munich striker has revealed his love for various sports including golf following his trip to Wentworth.Speculation on Kane’s future has been prompted as he enters his final year of his current contract with the German giants.However, he’s set to extend his stay with them as Kane is poised to sign a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2029.Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Allen joined talkSPORT Breakfast to offer his thoughts on making the cross-sport transition.In 1997, Allen played American football as a placekicker for the London Monarchs of NFL Europe and he converted six of six field goals and seven of ten extra points.He said: “It’s a crazy game. It’s a violent game. It’s a game that I played for a season for the London Monarchs in NFL Europe.“I found it fascinating. A different technique in obviously kicking American football, but a massive challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed. And I’m sure the talk is that Harry Kane is interested in doing it.“Harry will be able to do it, knowing his mentality, the way that he has conducted himself in terms of developing his soccer game. He will be a hit, I think, if he kicks in the NFL.”The NFL dreamKane’s main goal is searching for success with England at the Nations League, and eventually Euro 2028.However, the Ballon d’Or favourite has been vocal about switching sports and moving stateside eventually.Allen thinks Kane’s spot-kick prowess can help him split the uprightsKane has previously said: “That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously.“It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do.“The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.”Kane can take inspiration from Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys, who is considered the best kicker in the NFL having previously played football for MLS side, Toronto FC.However, Allen has warned the Bundesliga striker of the differences: “It’s completely different. And when I got it wrong, it was a soccer kick. And when I got it right, I was striking the ball very quickly.“You have to get the ball up quickly and straight. These boys now are knocking it over from 50, 60 yards, which is quite incredible.”Kane has been one of world football’s most prolific goalscorers since joining Bayern MunichGettyKane will shift his focus for time being on international football as Thomas Tuchel‘s side prepare to play world champions Spain, alongside Czechia and Croatia in the Nations League.Kane is loving life in Germany and confirmed a new deal with Bayern is close as they figure out remaining details.The striker has established himself as one of the world’s best with the Bundesliga champions and could soon become England’s first Ballon d’Or winner since Michael Owen in 2001.Kane said: “From my point of view, it would be unbelievable to win it, I’d be extremely proud to win it.“I think I’m definitely in the running to win it, without a doubt, so time will tell, the voters will vote for who they want.“It makes me more proud when other people talk about me, when other team-mates or ex-players or whoever it is, people who compliment me on what I achieved. I think that makes me more proud than me trying to talk about it myself.”
