Alien Swirling Saucers has had a strange couple of months.For most of its existence, the ride was the most predictable thing in Toy Story Land. It opened with the land in 2018, it spins for about ninety seconds, the height requirement is 32 inches, and the Aliens dangle from the claw while The Claw plays overhead. Families use it as the low-stakes option between Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania. Nobody writes much about it because for eight years, there was not much to write.Then July happened.Disney rolled out a new loading procedure that assigned every party a number, sent them to a matching star marker, and directed them to a specifically numbered rocket. That parallel setup is the entire reason a ride with a ninety second cycle can move the number of people it does.Take one side out and you are not trimming capacity. You are roughly halving it.For an attraction that normally holds a manageable posted wait, that changes the math quickly, especially in the afternoon when Toy Story Land is at its fullest and Slinky Dog Dash is already the longest line in the park.Toy Story Land only has three attractions. They show up around construction, around temporarily removed elements, and anywhere a gap would otherwise look like a gap.Placing them where a vehicle should sit suggests the vehicle has been pulled rather than simply parked out of rotation. A rocket taken out for the day does not usually get landscaping in its place.What that does not tell us is why, or for how long. Vehicles come out of service for routine maintenance all the time and go back in without anyone noticing. This one is just visible enough that people noticed.Three Days From a New SoundtrackThe timing is what makes this interesting.Disney has confirmed that Lilypad’s Jams debuts at Alien Swirling Saucers on September 25. Lilypad, the tablet character from Toy Story 5, becomes the ride’s DJ, playing a new soundtrack that Imagineers recorded with musicians in Nashville across pop, country, EDM, and alt rock styles, mixing reworked Toy Story music with original songs written for the attraction.She will also entertain guests who are not riding, with track introductions, puzzles, drawings, and home videos featuring Toy Story characters.Credit: PixarThe physical Lilypad installation is already standing outside the attraction.So the ride is three days from its biggest update since opening, and it is currently running at partial capacity. Those two facts may be completely unrelated. Disney has connected them in no way whatsoever, and assuming the closure is prep work for Lilypad would be speculation.But it does mean that if the side is still down on September 25, a new soundtrack debut will be drawing extra attention to a ride that can only load half as fast as usual.Four Changes in Roughly Two MonthsLay it out and the pace is unusual for an attraction that sat untouched for eight years.July 2026. Numbered vehicle assignments introduced, replacing open boarding.Mid September. Assignments removed, numbers stripped from the vehicles, open boarding restored.Mid September. Lilypad installed outside the attraction.September 22. One side closed, planters placed where a vehicle belongs.September 25. Cast members may still organize parties on the numbered floor markers, but those numbers no longer send you to a specific rocket.
