Six monkeys have been confiscated by Animal Welfare Malta after authorities found that they had not been registered despite an opportunity to do so during an amnesty period.Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said announced the confiscation, stressing that animal welfare laws must be respected. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)“The law is there to be respected,” Bugeja Said wrote in a social media post.According to the Parliamentary Secretary, owners had been given an opportunity to regularise the situation and register the animals during the amnesty period.“An opportunity was given for the situation to be regularised. Where this was not done, action is being taken,” she said.Bugeja Said stated that enforcing animal welfare legislation remains a priority, both out of respect for animals and for public safety.The operation was carried out jointly by Animal Welfare Malta, the Malta Police Force and the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), with Bugeja Said thanking those involved as well as others who assisted in the operation.What do you make of the authorities’ action?•
