UEFA has fined Feyenoord a total of 74,375 euros following misconduct by supporters during the away match against FC Barcelona in the Champions League on 9 September. The Rotterdam side lost the match 5–1. Feyenoord was penalised in response to four incidents. The largest fine, of 26,375 euros, is for objects being thrown onto the pitch. In addition, Feyenoord must pay 25,000 euros following racist and discriminatory behaviour by supporters. Footage circulating on social media shows Feyenoord fans making monkey noises directed at black Barcelona players. Damage caused to the refurbished Camp Nou will cost Feyenoord €13,000, whilst offensive chants have resulted in a fine of €10,000. In addition, Feyenoord has been given a suspended penalty of a 25 per cent reduction in the number of supporters allowed at away matches. The Rotterdam club had already announced, before the start of its European campaign, that it would not issue refunds if tickets were rendered invalid as a result of UEFA sanctions.
