Tottenham have struggled for goals this season, but signing yet another exciting player from the Netherlands squad could be the answer. It has been a disappointing start to Tottenham Hotspur‘s 2026/27 Premier League campaign, with De Zerbi’s side rooted to the bottom of the table after collecting just two points from their opening five games. That is despite the club backing the Italian heavily in the transfer market – around £400 million was committed to 10 new signings of his choice. Several figures, including Ashley Cole and Rafael van der Vaart, have since criticised Tottenham’s summer business. One of the biggest criticisms has been that Spurs left certain important profiles untouched while investing heavily in positions where they already had depth. A major concern has been their lack of goalscoring options, which has become De Zerbi’s most obvious problem after Tottenham scored just twice in their opening five Premier League games. It appears, however, that Spurs have already begun looking at versatile options who could help address that issue.Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty ImagesTottenham are keeping tabs on Gjivai ZechielTottenham spent £185 million on midfielders during the summer, paying £85 million for Mateus Fernandes and £100 million for Sandro Tonali. Neither, however, was brought in to fill the much-needed No.10 role or provide a consistent goalscoring threat from midfield.De Zerbi has not had a single fully fit option in that role all season. Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons are injured, while James Maddison has not been fit enough to start games. That has left De Zerbi using No.8s such as Fernandes and Conor Gallagher in the role, which has not worked particularly well.According to TeamTalk, Spurs are one of six Premier League clubs interested in Feyenoord’s Gjivai Zechiel, who has made an incredible start to the new campaign – registering five goals and four assists in eight games. The 23-year-old versatile midfielder, who is capable of operating as a No.6, No. 8, or No. 10, attracted plenty of interest after a productive loan spell at FC Utrecht last season, where he registered 20 goal contributions for the Eredivisie club.Tottenham are not alone, though. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the Dutchman.Chelsea are reportedly leading the race, with the London club ‘scouring’ the market for midfielders as they look for replacements for Enzo Fernandez, who joined Manchester City on deadline day.Zechiel would certainly add another dimension to De Zerbi’s squad, but Tottenham would have a difficult case to make. Spurs have no European football this season and already have several options in Zechiel’s positions, which could make regular game time harder to guarantee.Brighton, for example, could point to Luka Vuskovic as evidence of the opportunities available to young players there after the centre-back’s £50 million move from Tottenham this summer.Tottenham will need another solution elsewhere tooTottenham did not sign a replacement for Djed Spence after his £30 million move to Atletico Madrid, leaving Pedro Porro as the only natural option at right-back. His recent hamstring injury is expected to keep him out for a month, meaning primarily-a-defensive-midfielder, Archie Gray, will have to fill in.Tottenham have never won a game in which Gray has started at right-back, with that now happening 11 times. Gray has rarely done much wrong there, but he is still not a natural right-back.Spurs therefore cannot rely on a single specialist at the position, even if De Zerbi believes otherwise. Daniel Munoz and Neco Williams were options during the summer, but Munoz joined Nottingham Forest while Williams extended his contract there. There are not many established options readily available at the moment, but Tottenham will hopefully find a solution when the January window opens.READ MORE: Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall refuses to deny release clause in brand-new contract – Spurs WebThe post Tottenham enter race for Micky Van de Ven's Dutch teammate who has 9 G/A already this season appeared first on Spurs Web.
