Man City have been found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges levelled against them by an independent Premier League panel, and Tottenham may be poised to take the Manchester club to court.The Premier League have been investigating alleged breaches of the financial rules by Man City between 2009 and 2018 for the past few years.The investigation began after German newspaper Der Spiegel published leaked financial documents from City in November 2018. Among the charges are breaches of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations and the Prem’s own Profitability and Sustainability Rules.It emerged on Friday that an independent panel had found City guilty of almost all of the charges levelled against them, with the news creating shockwaves across the global game.It has now emerged that Spurs and several other of the Manchester club’s Premier League rivals are now poised to land a defining blow after the verdict.Photo by SpursWebTottenham have reserved the right to take legal action against Manchester CityAccording to The Daily Mail, Tottenham are one of four clubs who served formal notices in 2024, reserving their right to take legal action in the event that City are found guilty.Representatives of Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United have already begun putting together a case on how much they feel they have a claim for, as a result of their lost potential income due to City’s cheating.Tottenham are among the ones who feel most badly done by, having missed out on Champions League qualification on several occasions and the resultant revenue.Sources with knowledge of the situation suggest that Spurs could demand that City pay compensation of £200m. In fact, it is said that City could face a series of legal claims for as much as £800m from their rivals.What could be the sanctions against Man City?The independent panel is yet to decide what the consequences would be for City, with the Etihad hierarchy expected to appeal the verdict.The Mail claims that City could face severe sanctions from the Premier League, including a major points deduction, big fines and even potential expulsion from the top flight.City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak maintains the club’s innocence and insists they will be cleared of all charges on appeal.He wrote in response to the charges (via Man City’s website): “While some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, and there is so much noise swirling around us, nothing has changed. We have faced challenges together before and have prevailed. There remain many who want to undermine the momentum of our Club.
