Can newly identified antiviral compounds help stop some of the most dangerous mosquito-borne viruses that attack the brain? A research team led by scientists at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a part of The University of Alabama System, has generated a new class of antiviral compounds that show strong therapeutic potential against Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV), considered the most dangerous neurotropic alphavirus known to infect humans. The study is published in the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
