Lovin Malta asked its followers a simple question: Should the caravans and boat houses at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq be removed? The response was overwhelmingly in favour.Out of more than 3,100 votes, 2,700 people said “yes”, while 443 voted “no”.The poll comes as the debate surrounding caravans and boat houses at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq continues to intensify. In recent days, Naxxar Mayor Christopher Deguara called for stronger enforcement, arguing that some caravan owners are taking over public land, extending into public spaces with furniture and other items, and limiting access to the coastline. He stressed that his criticism was aimed at those abusing the system rather than responsible caravan owners. The issue has also sparked a public petition launched by resident Zach Demarco, which has already gathered more than 1,725 signatures. The petition calls for stricter enforcement against caravans, RVs and boats occupying public coastal areas at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, including the removal of unauthorised vehicles and the creation of designated parking areas away from the coastline. While the results are not representative of the wider Maltese population, they offer a snapshot of how Lovin Malta’s audience feels about one of the country’s most hotly debated coastal issues. What do you make of the issue?•
