Royal Ascot is the focus of this week's column as we rank the six two-year-old winners at the meeting, according to Timeform ratings. The usual format will return next week with a look at the maiden/novice winners who might have gone under the radar whilst all eyes were on the action in Berkshire.6. NOLA SOULJustify – Sing Me Home (GB), by MuhaararTimeform master rating: 97p'TDN Rising Star' Nola Soul, a debut winner at Leopardstown on May 16, showed much improved form to maintain his unbeaten record in the Listed Chesham Stakes, despite still looking far from the finished article. Taking a strong hold in the early stages, he then ran green when pushed along entering the final two furlongs, but there was plenty to like about the way that he stuck to his task, especially have been so keen, to ultimately win a shade cosily by half a length. In pure form terms, Nola Soul's didn't achieve anything out of the ordinary for a Chesham winner. The field finished in something of a heap, with less than five lengths covering the first eight home, while the race lost a bit of its lustre when the favourite, Aix La Chapelle (Justify), was withdrawn after getting upset in the stalls. That left another Justify colt, On Just Terms (96p), to throw down the biggest challenge to the winner on debut, with his only previous experience coming in a Leopardstown barrier trial.Certainly, On Just Terms is entitled to improve with this run under his belt, likewise Nola Soul, a colt blessed with a lot of size and scope. He will be well worth his place at a higher level, with the G2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh being earmarked as a potential target by trainer Fozzy Stack. What a way to start day three! KING OF CLOUGHAN (IRE)St Mark's Basilica (Fr) – Mystic Eyes, by Maclean's MusicTimeform master rating: 102pKing Of Cloughan lined up in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes as a two-race maiden, but he'd been the last off the bridle when chasing home none other than Nola Soul on his previous start at Leopardstown, shaping like a drop back to 6f would play to his strengths. That duly proved to be the case at Ascot where King Of Cloughan took a marked step forward to open his account, only winning by half a length but looking value for extra given how things developed.Settled in mid-division in the early stages, King Of Cloughan travelled fluently and still looked full of running when meeting traffic over a furlong out and being forced to switch. He picked up really well once in the clear, though, proceeding to hit the front close home in a finish dominated by outsiders. He himself was a 33/1 shot – and the next three home returned SPs of 66/1, 125/1 and 28/1 – but the form was up to scratch for the first edition of the Windsor Castle in its new guise, now run over 6f and restricted to juveniles whose sire won over 7f+ at two or 1m+ at three and above. This looks King Of Cloughan's trip for now and he's likely to progress further, with a Group race surely next on the cards. That boy Billy Loughnane again! King Of Cloughan wins the Windsor Castle Stakes! #RoyalAscot pic.twitter.com/j5KLDiDGqx— At The Races (@AtTheRaces) June 17, 2026 4. VICTORIOUS (IRE)Wootton Bassett (GB) – Heaven On Earth (Ire), by GalileoTimeform master rating: 106pDescribed by Timeform as “a well-made filly, one of the best types in the field”, Victorious went on to confirm her superiority on the racecourse when dispatching 26 rivals in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes in decisive fashion, with the drop back to the minimum trip proving no issue whatsoever after she'd kicked off her career with two wins at 6f, including a 'TDN Rising Star' performance on her debut at Naas.Successful in the G3 Fillies Sprint Stakes back at Naas next time, Victorious didn't need to improve much on that form at Ascot to extend her winning sequence for Aidan O'Brien. Having been patiently ridden by Ryan Moore, she impressed most of all with her strength at the finish – hardly surprising for a filly already proven over further – as she powered home to inflict a two-length defeat on Senorita Bonita (Starspangledbanner) (97p).O'Brien hadn't won the Queen Mary prior to True Love's victory in 2025, but he's now gone back-to-back, with last year's heroine certainly setting the bar high for Victorious in terms of what she might achieve in the future. It goes without saying that this filly is sure to be a major player in the top two-year-old events as the season progresses, with her pedigree and style of racing suggesting that she's likely to stay 7f when the time comes, too. She's well named! Victorious wins the Queen Mary Stakes! #RoyalAscot winner number 99 for Aidan O'Brien! pic.twitter.com/tfpnYdMFra— At The Races (@AtTheRaces) June 17, 2026 3. ORTHODOX (GB)Havana Grey (GB) – Heartwarming (GB), by Showcasing (GB)Timeform master rating: 107pTwenty-one runners went to post for the Norfolk Stakes, the largest field for the race since it became a Group 2 in 2006, with the increase in numbers likely to be a result of the changes to the Windsor Castle. In the event, however, it was essentially all about one horse as Orthodox proved himself in a different league to his 20 rivals, leading home a one-two for his sire, Havana Grey, in beating 150/1 shot El Floridita by three and a half lengths.Clearly having learnt plenty from a debut win at Salisbury on May 14, Orthodox seemed to relish having a strong gallop to aim at, with the three runners trained by Wesley Ward going hell for leather from the moment the stalls opened. The eventual fifth-place finisher, Fanshell Beach (Corniche) (90p), sustained the gallop best of that trio, but it was soon over as a contest once Rossa Ryan produced Orthodox with his challenge inside the final furlong.According to Timeform, this performance is worth viewing as at least up to standard for a Norfolk winner, if not a bit better. That identifies Orthodox as a sprinting two-year-old with the world at his feet if he can continue to progress for Clive Cox, with this TDN feature with his breeder, Whitsbury Manor Stud's Ed Harper, well worth a read if you've missed it up to now. GREAT BARRIER REEF (IRE)No Nay Never – Gems (GB), by Haafhd (GB)Timeform master rating: 108pMuch like stablemate Victorious in the Queen Mary, 'TDN Rising Star' Great Barrier Reef was the form pick among the 21 runners heading to post for the G2 Coventry Stakes, courtesy of his win in the G3 Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh. Admittedly, that wasn't enough to win over Ryan Moore, who sided with another 'TDN Rising Star' from Ballydoyle in Confucius (No Nay Never) (102p), but Wayne Lordan proved a more than able deputy as Great Barrief Reef maintained his unbeaten record with a bit in hand. The official winning margin was just half a length, but Great Barrier Reef arguably deserves extra credit given that he fared much the best of those drawn low, breaking from stall 3 when the next nine home all came from stall 10 or above. He was in the smaller group of seven who initially raced on the far side, before they all came together two furlongs out, with Great Barrier Reef then asserting in the final 100 yards to deny the battle-hardened Adaay Of Scarlett (Mehmas) (104).On Timeform ratings, Great Barrier Reef is by no means a vintage winner of the Coventry, with a relatively low view of the form being informed by the bunched finish – the first eight past the post were covered by less than two lengths. Nevertheless, the son of No Nay Never remains Timeform's highest-rated two-year-old colt in training as things stand, very much the type to progress and win more races. LIBERTANGO (IRE)No Nay Never – Ein Gedi (Ire), by Oasis Dream (GB)Timeform master rating: 109pNo Nay Never is also responsible for Timeform's highest-rated two-year-old full stop, namely the filly Libertango, who produced the best performance in this division at Royal Ascot when overcoming a troubled passage to win the G3 Albany Stakes. Her sizzling display also gave a welcome fillip to breeze-up handler Brendan Holland, who told TDN Europe that he watched his star graduate blitz her rivals from the ICU at Cork Hospital after undergoing heart surgery only three days earlier.Holland, along with backers of Libertango, will have had the odd anxious moment seeing how the Albany unfolded for the George Boughey trainee. Betraying her inexperience with a sluggish start, having made a winning debut at Leicester less than four weeks earlier, she raced well off the pace as a result and was then forced to wait for a gap inside the final two furlongs when starting to make good headway.Once eventually seeing daylight, however, Libertango produced eye-catching closing sectionals, notably running the final furlong more than half a second faster than any of her 24 rivals, ultimately winning by a length from the odds-on favourite, Sun Goddess (Sioux Nation) (103p). To beat that 'TDN Rising Star' in the manner that she did identifies Libertango as a most exciting prospect, with a clash with Victorious something to savour should it materialise later in the season.
