I think it’s fair to me, my family — I don’t want to sit there and say, ‘OK, 24 months from now, I’ve got to be ready to play another football season.’ “Hopefully, I feel great at the end of next year, and I’m ready to play another one after that. And then maybe we just kind of keep going like that. But, committing to more than that feels a little bit daunting. And I think a little bit unfair to the team and myself.”Stafford ranks sixth all-time in career passing yards (64,516) and could surpass No. 5 Aaron Rodgers before retiring.Brady, Brees, Peyton Manning and Brett Favre round out the top five.Stafford has been inspired by Tom BradygettyDrew Brees is one of the best QBs in NFL history and also chatted with StaffordGettyYet even with his MVP trophy and Super Bowl ring, Stafford can still be underrated by NFL fans.Blame the ‘bad’ Detroit Lions for that and Stafford’s career 120-118-1 record as a starter. But only one QB in the NFL led the league in passing yards (4,707) and touchdowns (46) last season, while guiding his team to a 12-5 record and the NFC Championship game. That’s Stafford, who’s only become more efficient and confident while playing within head coach Sean McVay‘s offensive system and approaching 40.Age is just a number for Drew BreesTalks with Brady helped Stafford remain passionate about the game.Insight from Brees reminded the No. 1 overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft that he can still light up the league on the other side of 40, just like a highly motivated Brady did.NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?“I was talking to Drew — this was before last season — and he was like, ‘How old are you, again?’ ” Stafford said. “I was like, ‘I’m 37.’ He’s like, ‘You might have your best five years of your career coming up.’ And I was like, ‘Huh?’“I never really thought about it that way. You’re taught as a player in this league it’s a young man’s game and the older you get, you’re just kind of doing everything you can to try to stay up to par with everybody else. “Drew saying that kind of lit a fire under me, and it gives you a little bit of belief that maybe an old guy can go out there and spin it around a little bit.”Brady won his seventh Super Bowl as a 43-year-old Tampa Bay QB, then followed up that defining trophy with 5,316 passing yards and 43 TDs.Stafford is a better pure passer than Brady and is now backed by a Myles Garrett-led defense. The young gunslinging QB who struggled to win with the Lions is now set up for annual playoff appearances in his 40s with the Rams. The Pro Football Hall of Fame is waiting on Stafford and he could carry a second Super Bowl trophy with him to Canton, Ohio.
