NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 22 – Police in Tana River County are investigating a shooting incident in Bangale Sub-County that left five men dead in what authorities suspect was an execution-style killing.According to a police report filed at Madogo Police Station on Saturday evening, the incident occurred at around 12:30 pm near a watering point in Biyagadud area.“A herder who had taken his camels to the water point reportedly heard gunshots and saw armed individuals firing at people who were lying on the ground. Fearing for his safety, he fled to Biyagadud village where he alerted village elders,” the report stated. The elders later proceeded to the scene and discovered the lifeless bodies of five men whose hands had reportedly been tied in pairs.National Police Service officers who visited the scene identified the victims as members of the Degodia community.“The deceased were identified as Abdi Kullow, 33, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head; Osman Abdi Ibrahim, 35, who was shot in the chin and right palm; Mohamed Adow, 25, who suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead; Siyat Jele, 40, who was also shot in the forehead; and Sahal Hile, 28, who sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of the forehead.”Police said the scene was processed and documented as investigations into the killings commenced.Efforts by officers to move the bodies to Garissa Level 5 Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations were, however, resisted by members of the public, who proceeded to bury the victims in accordance with Islamic rites.Authorities have not yet established the motive behind the killings or identified those responsible for the attack.
