Hamburg’s Sunday Meeting Moved To Wednesday As Heat Wave Forecasted To Continue

Wait 5 sec.

Hamburg's Sunday meeting has been postponed to Wednesday, July 1 at 5 p.m., Deutscher Galopp announced on Friday. The fixture was moved due to extreme heat. The organisation said in a statement, “The basis of this decision was a comprehensive assessment of the overall situation. Not only the predicted high temperatures were taken into account, but also the organizational and logistical challenges for athletes, horses, officials and racing club.“In the past few days, extensive measures had already been prepared to enable the race day to be held responsibly under difficult conditions. However, after renewed joint consultation with the race management, the Animal Welfare Commission, the independent commissioner for animal welfare issues and representatives of the Trainer and Jockey Association, all those involved have come to the conclusion that postponing the event to Wednesday is the most sensible and responsible decision.“The decision is expressly the result of an overall consideration in the interests of the horses, the athletes and the sport. The postponement can avoid significant of the challenges expected for Sunday and the start of the Hamburg derby week can be held under better conditions.“The races will be reopened for the new date on Wednesday. In addition, races can be renamed. The further modalities, deadlines and tenders will be announced shortly. All active members will be informed immediately.“Deutscher Galopp and the Hamburg Racing Club regret the inconvenience associated with the postponement. At the same time, both organisations are convinced that this decision is the right one in the interest of all parties involved.”Added Volker Linde, chairman of the Hamburg Racing Club, and Daniel Krüger, managing director of Deutscher Galopp, “This decision was not easy for us, but it is the right one after assessing the overall situation. It is not just about individual temperature values, but about the sum of the framework conditions. The postponement to Wednesday enables a fair and responsibly prepared start to the derby week under better conditions. Therefore, this decision is a common consensus in the interests of the horses, the athletes and the sport.”Saturday's Krefeld card has also been cancelled due to extreme heat. The post Hamburg’s Sunday Meeting Moved To Wednesday As Heat Wave Forecasted To Continue appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
