For barely over $200, one of these two 34-inch ultrawide panels from KTC is the budget gaming monitor I'd buy this Prime Day

Wait 5 sec.

A 34-inch, 180 Hz ultrawide gaming monitor for barely over $200? Yes, please. This KTC looks identical to many other budget ultrawides on paper. And that's just fine because it's cheaper than all of 'em.Key specs: 34-inch | 3440 X 1440 | 180 Hz | 1 ms MPRT | 300 nits | VAView DealThe one obvious downside to budget ultrawide monitors is poor pixel response from VA panel tech. Well, this KTC monitor offers a revised subspecies of VA panel technology known as HVA that's meant to be faster. And it's still one of the very cheapest ultawides out there.Key specs: 34-inch | 3440 X 1440 | 180 Hz | 1 ms MPRT | 300 nits | HVAView DealAndy rightly pointed out on Wednesday that there's never been a better time to buy a gaming monitor. There have been some stellar deals this Prime Day. Well, here's another pair of corkers, the KTC H34S18S and KTC H34S5, both 34-inch ultrawides, the first for $203 on Amazon, the other $212 and also on Amazon. They both look like rippers, but which is the budget gaming panel I'd go for from our current crop of Prime Day gaming monitor deals? Hold that thought.34-inch ultrawide is one of my very favourite gaming monitor form factors. I love the immersion of an ultrawide screen and the 3,440 by 1,440 resolution delivers a sweet compromise between image detail and tolerable GPU load. You don't need an RTX 5090 to use a 34-inch ultrawide. It's also great for daily computing duties and particularly for multitasking. Personally, I prefer a single ultrawide monitor to dual 16:9 panels. OK, the pixel density of this class of monitor is a little lacking. But then 4K comes with so much GPU pain. We're curating all the best Prime Day PC gaming deals hereAnywho, what exactly are getting for your mere $203? Apart from the basic size and resolution, the specs of the KTC H34S18S go something like this. It's a VA panel with 180 Hz refresh, 1 ms MPRT rated response and 300 nits brightness. These are not, it has to be said, spectacular numbers. Buy they are essentially the same as every other entry-level 34-inch ultrawide out there. It's just the KTC H34S18S costs less, for now at least.Of course, despite the 1ms rating this monitor claims, pixel response is the one aspect that might just disappoint thanks to the VA panel technology. If that has you worried, well, there's a possible solution. KTC has another 34-inch ultrawide, the aforementioned KTC H34S5.I really liked the KTC M27T6S, which bodes well for these ultrawides. (Image credit: Future)That uses an HVA rather than VA panel. Yes, it's still basically VA panel tech, but it's optimised for faster response. The specifics are pretty technical, but as I understand it HVA panels "pre tilt" the liquid crystals which makes them faster to respond.Whatever, guess what? The KTC H34S5 is currently available on Amazon for just $212, and thus barely any more money. It's the one I'd go for. $9 for faster panel tech is the textbook definition of a no-brainer. One last thing you might be wondering about is the KTC brand. It's a bit of an up and comer. I've reviewed two KTC monitors and come away mostly impressed on both occasions, most recently by the KTC M27T6S, which brings mini-LED to a remarkably low price point. So, while I haven't reviewed these two ultrawides, I'm pretty confident they should perform largely as expected.👉Check out Newegg's gaming monitor deals👈
