Small lava flow from a new effusive vent at the base of Voragine (image: Marco Fulle)A new sub-terminal effusive vent has opened in morning of 26 June 2026, at the eastern base of the Voragine summit crater, in the upper Valle del Leone (part of upper Valle del Bove), at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters above sea level. The vent has been producing a small lava flow. The volcano observatory reported that weak and irregular Strombolian explosive activity continued at the Voragine crater itself. Seismic activity has been observed for several days, with a steady increase in volcanic tremors currently originating at the Voragine crater at an altitude of approximately 2,900 meters above sea level.Infrasonic activity is localized to the Northeast Crater, and the amplitude and number of events are medium. No significant changes have been detected in the time series from ground deformation monitoring stations.
