Algeria vs Austria predictions and betting tips – Austria to edge an entertaining Group J decider

Wait 5 sec.

This should be good as both teams still have everything to play for and there’s a real contrast in styles. Austria know a draw is enough to finish second but I don’t actually see Ralf Rangnick setting his side up to play for one. That’s just not how they operate.Algeria bounced back brilliantly against Jordan to put themselves right back in the mix but I still think Austria have looked the stronger side across the two games. They’ve got more energy, more quality in midfield and I fancy them to come out on top in what should be an entertaining contest. My three favourite bets for this one:Austria to win – 5/4 with BoyleSportsAustria to win and Both Teams To Score – 6/1 with Sky BetMarcel Sabitzer to score anytime – 7/2 with bet365Algeria vs Austria head to head overviewDate: Sunday 28th June 2026Kick-off: 3am BSTVenue: GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium (neutral location)Where to watch: BBC / BBC iPlayerReferee: Ilgiz TantashevLast meeting: 1982 FIFA World Cup – Austria won 2-0.Previous meetings: The only previous World Cup meeting came in the infamous 1982 ‘Disgrace of Gijón’, when Austria’s defeat to West Germany eliminated Algeria. Austria won the only head-to-head meeting between these sides 2-0.Favourite to win: Austria (around 5/4)Algeria vs Austria predicted lineupsBoth managers are expected to stay largely unchanged for such an important game.Algeria could welcome Mohamed Amoura back if he’s passed fit after missing the win over Jordan, while Austria are expected to stick with the side that competed well against Argentina, despite Stefan Posch continuing to play through a broken jaw.Algeria expected lineup: Zidane; Belghali, Mandi, Bensebaini, Aït-Nouri; Boudaoui, Zerrouki, Maza; Mahrez, Gouiri, Chaïbi.Austria expected lineup: A. Schlager; Laimer, Alaba, Danso, Posch; Seiwald, Schlager; Sabitzer, Wanner, Schmid; Gregoritsch.Algeria vs Austria predictionsI’ve actually been quite impressed with Austria despite the defeat to Argentina. They didn’t roll over, they kept trying to play on the front foot and that’s exactly what you’d expect from a Rangnick team. They’re aggressive without the ball, they move it quickly and I think they carry more attacking threat than Algeria over the course of 90 minutes.Fair play to Algeria because they responded well after that opening defeat to Argentina. Gouiri looked sharp against Jordan, Mahrez still has moments of real quality and Aït-Nouri gives them another attacking outlet from left-back.I don’t think they’ll just sit in here because a win guarantees qualification so they have every reason to have a go.That’s actually why I think this could be a better game than plenty expect. Algeria have enough quality to get on the scoresheet but I just trust Austria more.Their midfield is stronger, they play at a higher tempo and I think they’ll create the better chances. If this opens up in the second half, I’d much rather be with Austria. I’m calling it 2-1 Austria.Algeria vs Austria betting tipsI’ve gone for three bets here and they all revolve around Austria having just enough quality to edge what should be an open game.Austria can finish the jobI just think Austria are the better team. They’ve looked more cohesive throughout the tournament and I like the way Rangnick sets them up. They don’t tend to sit back and protect what they’ve got, they keep trying to play. Against an Algeria side that also has to think about winning, I can see Austria taking advantage. Bet on Austria to win at 5/4 with BoyleSports Goals at both ends appealsI don’t think either side will settle for a cagey contest. Austria’s high press should force mistakes but it can also leave space behind them, while Algeria have enough quality through Mahrez, Gouiri and Chaïbi to create chances of their own. Both teams scoring with Austria just coming out on top makes plenty of appeal. Bet on Austria to win and Both Teams To Score at 6/1 with Sky Bet Sabitzer loves the big occasionThis price stood out to me straight away. Sabitzer always seems to influence the big games for Austria, whether that’s arriving late into the box or striking from distance. If Austria are going to progress, I’d be surprised if he wasn’t heavily involved somewhere along the line. Bet on Marcel Sabitzer to score anytime at 7/2 with bet365 Algeria vs Austria latest oddsFind the latest Algeria vs Austria betting odds here.
