Two Maltese endurance athletes have completed one of Europe’s toughest mountain races, with their challenge still far from over.Ryan Saliba Gazzano and Gabriel Borg successfully finished the gruelling 70km Matterhorn Ultraks race in the Swiss Alps yesterday after setting off at 1am and tackling hours of relentless climbing, technical trails and demanding mountain terrain.But instead of celebrating with some well-earned rest, the pair are set to return to the start line today to take on another 50km race.Ultra-distance racing pushes athletes to their physical and mental limits, testing their endurance through exhaustion, sleep deprivation and punishing conditions.By taking on one of the world’s most iconic mountain races, Ryan and Gabriel are proudly representing Malta on the international stage and proving that local athletes can compete alongside some of the best endurance runners in the world.Good luck to both athletes as they continue their incredible challenge!•
