The Best-Smelling Laundry Products and Scent Boosters

Wait 5 sec.

A pillowcase with subtle notes of sandalwood and vetiver or a bath towel that smells like seaside irises used to be exclusive to five-star resorts. Now, indulgently fragranced laundry can be a daily luxury in your own home. Obviously, scented laundry products have been around for decades (island breeze, lemon fresh). But brands both known (Downy) and new (Laundry Sauce) are now incorporating modern, elevated fragrance notes into their everyday offerings. I tried more than 30 of these products, over eight months and dozens of wash cycles, with the help of five Wirecutter colleagues. Three standouts rose to the top: a fresh scented detergent, a detergent with natural fragrance, and scent beads from an old-school brand. All three refresh clothing and linens and leave behind irresistible fragrances that could fool even the most sophisticated scent snob into believing they’re sniffing a bottle of Byredo.
