Cindy Sanyu says Ugandan artists lack government support for international success

Wait 5 sec.

Cindy Sanyu, a legendary Ugandan songstress, reveals that despite yearning to play at the global stage, she would need the financial backing of the Ugandan government to realise her dream. In an interview, the self-styled King Herself highlighted how Diamond Platnumz became sensational on the international stage due to the backing of the Tanzanian president and the government, who yearned to use him as the country’s ambassador globally. In comparison, she believes the Ugandan government hasn’t really backed Ugandan artists with the same financial support to push them to international recognition.Artin Pro urges creatives to stay resilient amid mental health strugglesI have always had plans of playing on the global stage, but it has layers to it that, as Ugandans, we need to sit and talk about. Before Diamond Platnumz, nobody in Tanzania was going international. He got international attention because the government got involved. The (Tanzanian) president actually funded his career with the aim of selling the country through him as an artist. That’s how he got that collaboration with Davido, and they started to put him in places he had to be. Our government doesn’t care. MTV does not get any value from playing Cindy because my country does not have any ADs (on MTV). There is no actual need to play Cindy, but they have to play Davido because they have ADs and money they are getting from Nigeria.Cindy further noted that she is at a point in her career where she does not have to struggle to get a hit song but rather continues to release good music for her loyal fans to continue enjoying her craft. At the moment, I don’t need a hit song. But I need to float, I can’t sink, I need really good music that doesn’t necessarily need that much promotion. It doesn’t have to be so popular, but something they can remember me by to walk through with my established fanbase. I need to give them something as we keep walking together. The post Cindy Sanyu says Ugandan artists lack government support for international success appeared first on MBU.
