Folarin Balogun has been tipped to sign for Crystal Palace this summer amid his impressive form at the World Cup.The USA international has two goals in two games for his nation so far this summer, starring for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side.Balogun has been one of the USA’s biggest stars at the World Cup so farAFPAnd his performances, on top of his standout stats for Monaco in Ligue 1 last season, have led to talk of a transfer. Balogun scored 13 Ligue 1 goals last campaign, as well as another five in the Champions League for the French outfit. He proved that he can compete at the top level after departing Arsenal and the Premier League in 2023, having played just 10 first-team games for the Gunners, scoring twice. The striker has now backed that up at the World Cup, and talkSPORT’s European football expert, Andy Brassell, has tipped him to return to England from Monaco this summer.“Folarin Balogun would be the perfect signing for Crystal Palace,” Brassell told talkSPORT. “The Conference League holders will, of course, be going into the Europa League next season, the competition that they should have been in in the first place, going back to the start of last season.“But you feel that Palace are set to be able to do something, especially with their new coach, Pierre Sage, in that competition.“Although with Jean-Phillipe Mateta potentially finally leaving this summer – there are plenty of teams still interested after his move to AC Milan fell through – they’ll need someone, Palace, to put the ball in the back of the net…and maybe Balogun can be that guy.”Dat Guy FloBrassell thinks Balogun could end up being ‘that guy’ for Crystal Palace as he already has a connection with London and has developed his game massively in recent months.“He is a US international, but he was brought up in London; he knows it really well, having come through at Arsenal,” he said. The 24-year-old used to play for Arsenal before heading to France in 2023Getty“And I think when you’re making the leap from Ligue 1 to the Premier League, that’s something that’s very doable. “It’s one of the most physical leagues, and for that reason, we see a lot of players coming over from Ligue 1 and settling in quickly.“Now, what’s interesting about him is how he’s developed in the last seven, eight months, because if you go back to the start of his spell at Monaco, it wasn’t that successful. “He was bought for £25m from Reims; he’d done very well there and scored over 20 goals in a Ligue 1 season.“But there were doubts…and if you look at the season just gone, he only scored three league goals before Christmas.“2026, though, it was completely different for him. He ended up with 11 goals in the last 16 games, a real hot streak.Balogun is having an incredible 2026, scoring plenty for Monaco and the USAAFP“As well as a lot of goals, he scored some in big games, two against PSG in the Champions League for Monaco.“You have to look at what he did in the Champions League, and this is relevant to Palace as they’ll be in European competition. “He’s already done it in the Champions League, five goals in 10 starts last season, including those against PSG and a winner away at Bodo/Glimt.”More European success? Balogun’s standout skills are a perfect match for Palace, too, according to Brassell, and that could lead to another trophy. He explained: “You’re looking at someone whose movement has always been fantastic; he’s always been able to finish with both feet.“But now, he’s got much better at linking play since he’s been at Monaco, surrounded by some really talented forward players. Brassell thinks Balogun could lead Palace to another European titleGetty“He can create space for the others in his team, and if you look at someone like Yeremy Pino, I think he’d click really nicely with him.“And then of course, he’d have the boost of coming in off the back of his home World Cup with the US…he’s looked fantastic. “He’s a guy who, when he gets a chance, it’s decisive, and we’ve seen that with not just the amount of goals he’s scored but the type.“If Palace can create chances for him, I feel pretty confident that he’ll score a decent amount of Premier League goals and goals in Europe.“Which then, who knows…a second European trophy for Palace?”
