The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.4 as well. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.4.Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.Weak shaking might have been felt in Barkhan (pop. 8,800) located 74 km from the epicenter, Taunsa (pop. 44,900) 80 km away, Kohlu (pop. 11,100) 89 km away, Dera Ghazi Khan (pop. 494,500) 91 km away, Zhob (pop. 50,500) 101 km away, Kot Addu (pop. 104,200) 108 km away, and Layyah (pop. 151,300) 116 km away.VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake. If you were or still are in this area during the quake help others with your feedback and report it here.Download the Volcanoes & Earthquakes app and get one of the fastest seismic alerts online: Android | iOSI didn't feel itI felt this quakeEarthquake detailsDate & timeJun 27, 2026 03:06:21 UTC - Local time at epicenterSaturday, Jun 27, 2026, at 08:06 am (Asia/Karachi GMT +5)Statusconfirmed (manually revised)Magnitude5.40Depth10 kmEpicenter latitude / longitude30.4545°N / 69.6859°EMusa Khel District, Balochistan, PakistanAlso near: Afghanistan 147 km (91 mi) awaySeismic antipode30.4545°S / 110.314°WQuality68 seismic stationsShaking intensityVI Strong shaking near epicenterFelt0 reportsPrimary data sourceUSGS (United States Geological Survey)Nearest volcanoTor Zawar (210 km / 130 mi)Weather at epicenter at time of quakeClear Sky 29.8°C (86 F), humidity: 45%, wind: 2 m/s (4 kts) from WSWEstimated seismic energy released7.9 x 1012 joules (2.21 gigawatt hours, equivalent to 1898 tons of TNT or 0.1 atomic bombs!) | equivalent to ONE quake of magnitude 5.4 | about seismic energy27 minutes ago reported feltJun 27, 2026 03:06 GMT / Jun 27, 2026 08:06 am (Karachi time)Lat / Lng: 30.4545 / 69.6859: 63 km NNE of Barkhan, PakistanSource: USGSOther sources: GFZ: 5.4 / 10 km, RaspberryShake: 5.4 / 10 km, 1 more...Detail info | Read user reports | You felt it? - Report it!';storedMarkers.push(['quake-23138368',30.45450,69.68590,'27 minutes ago: Mag. 5.4, 63 km NNE of Barkhan, Pakistan',html,'quakes-7-24.png',30,30,15,15,126]); function mkRep(id,notFelt){var nFelt=notFelt||false;var src="https://www.volcanoesandearthquakes.com/app/earthquake-report.php?quakeId="+id;if(nFelt==true){src+="&notFelt=true";}window.open(src,"","status=0,toolbar=0,location=0,directories=0,menubar=0,resizable=1,scrollbars=1,height=400,width=350");} function locationHashChanged(e){-1!=e.oldURL.indexOf("#popupMap")&&closePopup()} window.onhashchange = locationHashChanged; function comment(e){var t=e.parentNode,a=(t.dataset.id,document.getElementById("commentForm"));"none"==a.style.display?(t.appendChild(a),a.style.display="block"):a.style.display="none"}function sendComment(e){var t=e.parentNode,a=t.parentNode.dataset.id,n=document.getElementById("commentContent"),p=n.value.trim();if(p){var o="id="+a+"&quakeId="+thisQuakeId;o+="&comment="+decodeURIComponent(p),mkRequest("//reports.volcanodiscovery.com/app/eqReportComment.php","post",o,function(e){e.responseText;alert("Thank you for submitting your comment!"),t.style.display="none",n.value=""})}}function flagReport(e){var t=e.parentNode.dataset.id;if(confirm("Report this as inappropriate?")){var a="id="+t+"&quakeId="+thisQuakeId+"&flagAsInappropriate=1";mkRequest("//reports.volcanodiscovery.com/app/eqReportComment.php","post",a,function(t){var a=t.responseText;alert(a),e.style.display="none"})}}function likeReport(e){var t="id="+e.parentNode.dataset.id+"&quakeId="+thisQuakeId+"&like=1";mkRequest("//reports.volcanodiscovery.com/app/eqReportComment.php","post",t,function(t){t.responseText;e.style.opacity=.5})}]]>[smaller] [bigger]Ground shaking from this quakeMap of estimated ground shaking (source:USGS)Ground accelleration map for this quakeMap of estimated ground accelleration (source:USGS)Most recent quakes Top 20 past 24 hrs Quakes in PakistanNearby placesThe closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Taunsa, a town with 45,000 inhabitants in Pakistan, in 96 km (60 mi) distance east of the epicenter. It is commonly measured on the so-called Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale (MMI) ranging from 1 (not felt) to 10 (extreme shaking), and given in Roman numerals as I,II,...IX, X, and often displayed with color codes ranging from light blue to dark red.Earthquake intensity depends mainly on the magnitude and depth of the quake as well as the distance from the epicenter: The further away, the less shaking intensity occurs.Read more about the MMI scale!Number of reports by intensityShaking intensityNumber of reportsMin-Max distance from epicenter (*)Average distance (*)I: Not felt1541–541 km (336–336 mi)541 km (336 mi)Notes(*) Reports are filtered to exclude those that are likely highly inaccurate or esaggerated.Only reports with latitude/longitude coordinate positions given (1 in total) could be used for geographic statistics.Get the Android appCompare Quake DataData for the same earthquake as reported by different agenciesThe more agencies report about the same quake and post similar data, the more confidence you can have in the data. When aftershocks are detected, we will update this section. What are aftershocks?Larger earthquakes (above magnitude 5 or so) such as this one are usually followed by smaller ones known as aftershocks that occur in the same area during the days, weeks, months or even years after the main shock.[More info]What about this quake?Based on its magnitude, the fault that was active during the quake likely ruptured beneath a surface area of approximately 25 km2 (10 square miles) as a first-order estimate. The length of the rupture zone thus was probably around 9 km (5 mi).[More info]Recorded aftershocks, latest first (0 quake)Jun 27, 2026 08:06 am (Karachi)27 minutes ago5.410 km0 km - This quake63 km NNE of Barkhan, PakistanMain Shock (this quake)MoreMap of aftershocksEarthquake statisticsAverage number of earthquakesBased on data from the past 56 years and our earthquake archive back to 1900, there are about 10.5 quakes on average per year in the area near the epicenter of this quake (within 100 km/61 mi):Mag. 6 or higher: 0.05 quakes per year (or 1 quake every 21.3 years)Mag. 5 or higher: 0.63 quakes per year (or 1 quake every 1.6 years)Mag. 4 or higher: 7.8 quakes per yearMag. 3 or higher: 11.9 quakes per yearMag. 2 or higher: 12.3 quakes per yearThe area where this quake occurred has a high level of seismic activity.
