[Constituent’s address][Date][State legislator’s name][State legislator’s address]Dear [Rep.] [Sen.] ______;From this day forward, starting in the current legislative session, you could be a founding member of an rConstitution Caucus.Constitution is short for republican Constitution, using Randy Barnett’s nomenclature from Our Republican Constitution. The republican Constitution is the actual Constitution, which secures individuals’ rights. The opposite is a democratic Constitution, under which majorities rule, depriving individuals of their rights. A Constitution Caucus’s members will support the Constitution.I’m writing to make it clearer just how far our government people are from supporting the Constitution, and to ask you to represent your constituents’ interests by taking the specific actions they need from you.The Constitution Requires USA Governments to Be Severely LimitedPast USA governments have been much-more limited than the present USA governments:In the American Colonies, spending in all jurisdictions totaled just 1% to 2% of GDP.In the USA through 1913, apart from during wars, spending in all jurisdictions totaled just 3% to 8% of GDP.In the USA now, spending in all jurisdictions will total 40% of GDP, and complying with national regulations alone will take another 7% to 10% of GDP, so USA governments are taking at least 47% to 50% of GDP.The Constitution is designed to severely limit governments. It was the people, whose sentiments were expressed by the Anti-Federalists, who forced the Federalists to design the Constitution this way. The Constitution was only ratified because it is designed to severely limit governments. The USA’s past much-more-limited governments are what freed the USA people to grow to lead the world.At-Least Some Government People Must Limit Other Government PeopleThe Republican Party provides ballot access to constitutionalists, but the party is structured to support Progressives. Progressives will never limit spending and regulating, much less severely limit spending or regulating.Fights over budget line-items are especially pointless. These at best only yield temporary compromises, and these always very soon must get fought all over again. Working with Progressives on legislative budget committees will never meaningfully limit governments. What will severely limit governments is for constitutionalists to first sponsor substantial full repeals (including repeal amendments to state constitutions), next force recorded votes, and finally campaign hard against Republicans who oppose these repeals. Change the composition of the Republican Party, and Republican constitutionalists will severely limit governments. This works the same way that seed crystals work. A solution can become supersaturated and yet for a long time still not crystallize out the solids. But introduce seed crystals, and each crystal provides a pattern that other molecules then crystalize out of the solution to stick to and join. Each crystal rapidly grows larger until all the available supersaturation gets fully converted into the desired solids.Likewise, some Republicans need to be the first to offer the constitutionally-required severely-limited governments. Then others will run, will win, and will join them in doing what voters want.Governments’ Only Just Powers Are to Better-Secure Life, Liberty, and PropertyThe Constitution is designed to exclude administrative agencies. Fundamental rules in the Constitution vest all national-government powers in branch officials and vest zero national-government powers in agencies. Another fundamental rule in the Constitution guarantees this same republican form of government to each state’s people.Constitutionally, legislators appropriate a limited overall-total budget and pass rules and sanctions that apply to all. Executives allocate budget line items to best execute constitutional laws and opinions, and are fully accountable for delivering optimal results. Judges opine on cases. No government jurisdictions, including states, counties, or cities, should control property that’s not used in commerce, control businesses, control schools, or control social services.Constitutionally, there are no national-government enumerated powers to do these things. There also are no takings of private property to do these things or to do anything else without providing just compensation directly to the private property’s owners. In practice, too, these exclusions make the best sense. Schooling, and more generally, research, when controlled in any way by government people, ends up being done to satisfy politicians instead of to satisfy customers. Social services are provided far-more carefully and efficiently by voluntary charities.Change is best done fast and extensively, including change in schooling and change in entitlements. As soon as government people stop multiplying and controlling, people are freed to produce what customers want, and people are freed to buy those products.Government people don’t need to design new or replacement programs, they need to repeal current programs.Immediately, as constitutionally required, politicians should reduce each jurisdiction’s governance down to a few commonsense rules and sanctions, executed and adjudicated faithfully—approaching the severely-limited governance in Israel during Judges. As soon as voluntary alternatives can be built up, even this severely-limited governance should be eliminated in favor of voluntary actions, limited in the same ways governments will have been limited, using Constitution-like internal safeguards.Progressive governance is exceedingly difficult. Constitution support is simple. It only takes understanding human action and having the emotional intelligence to free the people.Actions NeededPlease stop futilely trying to produce results by working with Progressives. Start being the choice that voters need, and producing results by replacing Progressives:At minimum start voting from now on to earn a 100% Freedom Index except if you have even-more-sound reasoning on a given vote and you fully explain.Sponsor an rConstitution Caucus declaration, constitution, and laws that explicitly show potential members and voters what the members will do as a caucus, and that strongly indicate what the members will do as a party when they reach the majority there and what the members will do as legislators when they reach majorities in legislative houses.Sponsor a single overall-total appropriation that’s substantially lower.Sponsor substantial repeals, repeatedly.Best regards,[Constituent’s name][Constituent’s phone number][Constitution’s email address]The post To Prospective State Constitution Caucus Members appeared first on LewRockwell.
