Irad Ortiz Jr. claimed his first Churchill Downs Spring Meet riding title at the conclusion of racing Sunday while trainer Joe Sharp and owner David Jacobson also took home respective championships in their categories.The riding title is Ortiz Jr.'s second overall at Churchill Downs behind his 2025 Fall Meet win. Represented by agent Steve Rushing, he opened the Spring Meet with a runner-up finish aboard Renegade in Kentucky Derby 152 and followed that with win in the GI Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic, the GII Eight Belles, and the GII Fasig-Tipton Fleur de Lis Stakes. He ended Sunday's card with 64 victories, one higher than his brother Jose Ortiz reached for his Spring Meet title in 2025. The brothers again topped the jockey colony as Jose ranked second in the standings with 50 wins, followed by Tyler Gaffalione and Luis Saez at 37, and Brian Hernandez Jr. with 17.Joe Sharp secured his second straight Spring Meet title with 27 wins from 144 runners, and held off 10-time local title holder Brad Cox, who came in just shy at 26. Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen finished the meet with 19, Brian Lynch claimed 14, and Brendan Walsh rounded out the top five with 13.David Jacobson also took home a title from the meeting, but as an owner this time–his second win in the category at Churchill Downs.
