Over the last few weeks, Walt Disney World has indicated it plans to crack down on non-on-site guests Resort Hopping at its hotels. The latest change affects families who prefer walking to Magic Kingdom Park via the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC) and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.Guests Blocked From Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort WalkwayCredit: DisneyOn June 23, a Reddit user reported that an unnamed livestreamer was unable to access the walkway between the Transportation & Ticket Center and the Magic Kingdom, which travels through Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. u/Chris-Jean-Alice wrote that a security cast member turned the livestreamer away, informing them that the walkway was now only for guests with hotel or dining reservations at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.A livestreamer on YouTube who streams the same walk from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom through the Polynesian and Grand Floridian was turned away this morning early around 6:30am and told by a stationed guard on the path that from now on that path through the resort properties is for hotel and dining reservation guests only. He was told this was now a permanent policy. Interesting because this is not about paying for parking because the path starts at the TTC.So, free roaming resorts may actually be over.Livestreamer turned away at the Polybyu/Chris-Jean-Alice inWaltDisneyWorldAt first, some Disney Parks fans claimed that the livestreamer was only refused access because they tried to walk in the area at around 6:30 a.m. However, another commenter reported that their mother, who walks the path from the TTC to Magic Kingdom Park for exercise multiple times a week, was recently turned away after 8:00 a.m.“We live local also, my mom likes to walk from TTC to MK in the mornings,” u/kelcemagic commented. “She was also turned around this morning at the Poly walkway…She texted me around 8 , so it was definitely later. She does this routine 2 or 3 times a week, been doing it for years. Hopefully it was just this morning, if you park at the TTC you should be able to walk if you choose too.”Credit: Inside the MagicSome Disney Parks fans were disappointed by the change and wondered whether it was worth it for Walt Disney World Resort to restrict access to a walkway from the TTC to Magic Kingdom Park just to reserve exclusivity and reduce foot traffic for guests staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.“Very disappointing,” said u/Halabane. “Be interesting to see how long this last because its got to cost them money to have someone patrolling all these walk ways figuring out who belongs or not.”Credit: Theme Park Tourist, Flickr“Disney is going to lose a ton of money at ALL resorts not letting people there,” u/Acrobatic_touch_5765 replied. “We go to the resorts frequently to have a quick service meal and shop. We spend a TON of money as non resort guests. If they wanna stop that, fine, we will take our money elsewhere. But it’s not as if the resort guests are going to recoup that loss so it truly will just be loss on Disneys part.”“A Disney vacation loses serious appeal for me if I am [not] allowed to explore the property,” added u/ViVella23.Still, others defended Disney for reducing crowding at its most expensive resort properties.Credit: Disney“Good,” u/lake_lover_ commented. “The resorts, especially MK and the boardwalk area resorts are way too crowded.”“I agree, that was the only issue we had staying at the poly,” u/BoSKnight87 replied. “Couldn’t even enjoy the lobby it was always mobbed, and the line for the monorail was insane. Would have to sometimes wait for a 2nd or 3rd.”Other Resort Hopping Changes at Walt Disney WorldCredit: Anthony Quintano, FlickrBeginning June 28, a program that Walt Disney World Resort tested at Disney Springs earlier this year is becoming permanent. To access bus or boat transportation in the shopping, dining, and entertainment district, guests must scan a MagicBand, phone, or other device to verify they are staying at a Disney Resort hotel or have a valid dining reservation. At first, Disney Parks fans assumed that Walt Disney World Resort was simply cracking down on families who took advantage of free parking at Disney Springs, then took a bus or a boat to Disney Resort hotel before transferring to theme park transportation–avoiding parking fees at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. However, recent announcements make it clear that Walt Disney World hopes to discourage families without hotel or dining reservations from visiting its on-property resorts.Credit: Jess Colopy, Inside the MagicWalt Disney World Resort recently announced that the iconic life-size Gingerbread House would not return to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in November, reducing a massive seasonal draw for off-property guests during the holiday season. Then, in a post on the Disney Parks Blog, Disney explicitly stated that its Christmas decorations are for guests staying on property or visiting with a dining reservation. For now, guests only need to show a dining or hotel reservation when boarding hotel transportation at Disney Springs. It’s unclear whether Walt Disney World Resort intends to eventually restrict access to buses, the Disney Skyliner, the Monorail, and watercraft transportation at its theme parks.Have you ever Resort Hopped at Walt Disney World Resort?
