Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly added another highly-rated Serie A midfielder to their shortlist as Roberto De Zerbi continues his squad rebuild.Tottenham Hotspur are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market after already bringing in Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke this summer.Attention has now shifted towards midfield, where Spurs are preparing some of the biggest moves of their window. The North London club have already seen a £75m bid rejected for Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali and remain determined to return with an improved offer.Tottenham are also pushing hard to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, with De Zerbi understood to want the Portuguese international alongside Tonali. Despite Manchester United’s strong interest, Spurs remain confident they can convince Fernandes to join the project in N17.Now, another midfielder has emerged as a potential target.(Credit @thefrederikkejensen / Instagram)Tottenham make enquiries for Manu KoneAccording to TeamTALK, Tottenham have emerged as genuine contenders for AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone. The report suggests Spurs are exploring the conditions of a potential move for the France international, who could become available as Roma continue to navigate financial restrictions. De Zerbi is said to be a strong admirer of Kone and believes the midfielder possesses many of the qualities required to thrive in his system.Arsenal were previously credited with serious interest in the 25-year-old, with discussions reportedly taking place with his representatives earlier in the summer. However, the Gunners have since cooled their pursuit, creating an opening for other clubs to enter the race.According to the report, Tottenham have ‘made their own inquiries’ on the situation and are assessing what would be required to complete a deal, with Roma believed to value the midfielder at around £40m.Kone, who is currently away at the World Cup with France, is reportedly keeping his options open. TeamTALK add that the midfielder would be attracted by the opportunity to work under De Zerbi despite Tottenham not competing in Europe next season.‼️Tottenham have reportedly joined the race to sign Roma and France midfielder Manu Kone…The World Cup star is available at a fraction of the cost of the likes of Tonali, Fernandes and Wharton 👀 #THFChttps://t.co/BA1gcrzyaR— TEAMtalk (@TEAMtalk) June 22, 2026Does Manu Kone fit within Tottenham’s midfield rebuild? There is little doubt that Kone would improve Tottenham’s midfield, given the Frenchman is widely regarded as one of Serie A’s most complete box-to-box midfielders and possesses the athleticism and technical quality to thrive in the Premier League. However, this is a deal that currently feels less likely than the pursuits of Tonali and Fernandes. Those two players appear to fit the profiles De Zerbi is prioritising most. By contrast, Tottenham already have several midfielders capable of operating in a box-to-box role, including Rodrigo Bentancur, Conor Gallagher, Pape Matar Sarr and Lucas Bergvall. Both Sarr and Bergvall have been linked with moves away from the club in recent weeks, which could change the equation. Even then, committing another £40m to Kone would be difficult to justify if Spurs also proceed with moves for Tonali and Fernandes. For that reason, a deal for Kone may depend on other developments in Tottenham’s midfield. If one of Sarr or Bergvall departs, or if either the Tonali or Fernandes pursuit falls through, the France international could quickly become a more realistic target.READ MORE: Three realistic signings Tottenham could make to complement Sandro Tonali midfield revolutionThe post Tottenham emerge as ‘genuine contenders’ for £40m France World Cup midfielder appeared first on Spurs Web.
