The name Andre Fabre has been a staple on French race cards since 1978 and has graced the roll call of many a top race the world over during that time. Since Tuesday, however, horses from his Chantilly stable have appeared under the name A & L Fabre, with the legendary trainer having officially been joined on the licence by his daughter Lavinia, who had been training under her own name since last year. The new partnership has sent out six runners across the last two days in France. Pierre-Charles Boudot has been back in the saddle for four of those, including Gazi (Persian King), who was runner-up to Daryzan (Zarak) at Chantilly's meeting on Wednesday, which had a 9.45am start in a bid to combat the heatwave affecting much of France. There are plenty of examples of sons teaming up with their fathers to train. This father-daughter training partnership, though rare, is not the first of its kind in France as Didier and Pauline Prod'homme also hold a joint-licence. Fabre, 36, jokes that there was “no chance of this happening with my brothers”.In an interview in TDN last October she set out her goal of going into partnership with her father, who has also long relied on the expert assistance of his wife and Lavinia's mother, Elisabeth.“It feels good,” Lavinia Fabre said of the new arrangement on Wednesday. “It's been in the works for almost a year now so it's not really a shock to the system and it hasn't changed anything for us day to day at all.“I'm just excited and I hope that I won't let down the family name.”Speaking last year of the vital lessons she has learned from her parents, Fabre, who also shares her father's love of polo, said, “One thing that I've seen from them, from being born in that house, is how they've always been very consistent with their hard work. And that's something that has always almost scared me to become a trainer, to think there are no breaks, no holidays, no days off. It's every single day you've got to be out there, and there are no excuses.“That is really challenging – and they've done it for over 40 years. But that's what I've learned: if you want to be good, that's the secret. It's about being consistent and not wavering.”It is that dedication to the art of racehorse training which has seen her 80-year-old father crowned champion trainer in France 31 times, his most recent title coming in 2024. During his near-half century with a licence he has won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe a record eight times, and on Tuesday he aired his opposition to France Galop's vote to alter the conditions of the race to allow geldings to run, a decision Fabre said he was “firmly against”.Lavinia is of a similar view. She said, “I'm more against than for, but mainly because I don't really understand why we're focussing on that. I feel like there are so many things wrong with French racing at the moment but the Arc isn't something we should be too concerned about. It's a race that's still attractive internationally. It's a success, and it's not like we have a lack of runners.“I'm not saying that allowing geldings wouldn't make the race more interesting, but we don't know. I'm not sure why we're trying to change something that is working at a time when there are a lot of different things that I think we should focus our energies on.” The post Andre and Lavinia Fabre Commence Official Training Partnership appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
