Absolutely. I’m on permanent disability, I live off of a whole $1970/month in a HCoL area. My girl (13 year old beagle mix) started whimpering at night. I took her to the vet and it was arthritis starting to move up her back legs (she had knee surgeries 5 years prior). The constant vet bills for when one treatment stopped working, and then another, etc, made me max out my credit card. It was worth every penny to minimize her pain but asking anyone beyond my parents for financial help is insane. They offered to cover the ‘end of life’ costs, which meant that the vet was able to give her a massive dose of morphine beforehand so I could cuddle her for a few minutes while she was pain free before saying goodbye. I hate irresponsible pet owners. You don’t have to be rich to have a pet but you do need to budget, be ready to go into some debt if need be, and make sure to have pet insurance! (The vets thought my girl has leukemia as a pup so she was ineligible).
