A Texas hotel manager drew online attention after she shared that she received a $500 parking ticket for leaving her car in a handicap space. According to the video she posted on TikTok, she acknowledged that parking there was wrong, but she argued that the bigger problem was a guest’s decision to report her instead of speaking with her directly. The video was uploaded by a woman named Sherri, who posts under the account @sheri.hotel.gm. The clip gained hundreds of thousands of views and attracted thousands of comments. Viewers appeared to be split between criticizing the parking violation and sympathizing with the manager’s frustration. In the video, Sherri said the spot was located near an abandoned section of the property, and she claimed that she rarely parks there. According to her account, the ticket was issued after the guest contacted authorities about her vehicle. In the caption, she identified the hotel as “The Grand Hotel Spindletop Beaumont, Tx.” The manager’s account of where the space was located and how she responded Sherri said she has worked at the hotel since 2019 and has lived on the property since 2021. She stated, “I’m Sherri, and I have been the hotel general manager here since 2019, and I have lived at the hotel since 2021.” She also described a low-key approach to guests, saying, “I don’t mess with anybody up here. I keep to myself. I vibe by myself. I don’t mess with the guests. As long as you pay your rent, I don’t have no problem.” She explained that the area behind her was the abandoned parking lot in the abandoned section of the hotel. According to her account, only employees park there, and she said they do so to stay under the camera. She stated, “Because, you know, people get mad at us and want to mess with our cars.” Parking disputes like this are not unusual, and one Atlanta woman reportedly returned to find her parked car double booted after stepping away for about a minute. @sheri.hotel.gm A hotel guest called and reported my car being parked in a handicap spot here at the hotel resulting in a $500 ticket for me to pay. I rarely ever park in that spot, but I did that day. I don’t miss with any of the Hotel guest here being the Hotel general manager. I have worked here since 2019 and I have lived here since 2021. Hotel guest often can be very petty #hotel#guesthandicapThe Grand Hotel Spindletop Beaumont, Tx ♬ original sound – SHERI W Grand Hotel Spindletop Sherri pointed out the handicap spot and said it belonged to the abandoned section of the property. She stated that the door behind her led only into a stairwell, and she said, “All of our handicapped parking is up front, in front of the hotel and along the side.” She also indicated she would have moved if asked, saying, “And if you wanted the spot, I would have moved. All I had to do was come and say, ‘Hey, Sherri, um, can I park there?’ I would have come and moved my car.” The manager added that she and her staff reviewed security footage and identified the guest who reported her. She stated, “So me and the staff, we have rolled the cameras back and we know who you are.” She maintained that she would not have reported the guest under similar circumstances and said, “I would never do that to you. I wouldn’t do that to anybody, but that’s the difference between you and I. I don’t do people dirty.” She closed her message by saying she would not put the guest out and added, “When you do people dirty like that, you’re blocking your blessings, but you are increasing my blessings.” The video drew a range of responses in the comments. Some users appeared to side with Sherri, with one writing, “People need to mind their own business,” and another suggesting, “Someone was mad at you.” A few questioned how the ticket was even possible, with one asking, “The hotel is on private property. How did you get a ticket.” Conflicts over reserved spaces are common too, as one Seattle woman confronted a man over her parking spot that she said she paid for. Other commenters focused on the parking violation itself rather than the guest’s actions. One wrote, “You’re still in the wrong. It doesn’t matter what your reason,” while another commented, “So a long video to tell us you were wrong. Got it.” One user balanced support with criticism, writing, “As much as I love your content and look forward to it every day, the law is the law. Unfortunately no one is above it.” Another pointed to her own footage as a possible next step, writing, “Looks like you have enough evidence to take the ticket to court.” Throughout the discussion, Sherri clarified that she was not claiming to be innocent, but instead said the video was about what she viewed as spiteful behavior from the guest.
