A major cleanup operation at Fomm Ir-Riħ has seen volunteers remove an impressive 494kg of waste from one of Malta’s most picturesque coastal areas. The Coast Is Clear team collected ropes, fishing lines, fishing nets, metal and plastic debris during the expedition along Malta’s west coast. The cleanup also led to the discovery of a storm-damaged fish farm cage weighing around 2,000kg, along with additional ropes and nets that had washed ashore. Recovery efforts have already begun, with organisers describing it as a long-term operation. The expedition was funded by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and supported by a number of organisations and sponsors, including the Alfred Mizzi Foundation, Project Green, ROCS Group and Cisk. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce marine pollution and protect Malta’s coastal ecosystems from waste that can pose risks to wildlife and the environment.A big well done to the crew!Image: Coast Is Clear Foundation View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)•
