MTN Uganda Chairman and prominent businessman Dr Charles Mbire is set to headline the inaugural SBG Securities Investor Day on Friday, June 26, 2026, as part of an initiative to drive local participation in Uganda’s financial markets. The event will be streamed live on the Stanbic Uganda YouTube channel starting at 12:00 PM EAT.The high-level financial forum comes amid a shifting economic landscape in which more Ugandans are transitioning from traditional savings accounts to investment instruments such as equities, unit trusts, and government securities. The day will kick off with the SBG Securities Annual General Meeting (AGM) for its Unit Trust clients, after which clients and the general public will move into a two-hour interactive session featuring a line-up of speakers who will share knowledge and experience. The event is increasingly viewed as a crucial thought leadership platform as the Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited (SUHL) subsidiary seeks to cement its place in the market.According to SBG Securities Chief Executive Grace Semakula, the Investor Day is a platform to bridge the information gap that frequently deters everyday citizens from participating in the financial markets. Semakula noted that while saving is a great first step, wealth creation requires active participation in financial markets. He emphasised that an event such as Investor Day is therefore timely, providing a platform for people to learn, engage with experts, and discover opportunities that can help them achieve their financial goals.“Investor Day is designed to create a platform where investors, business leaders, SUHL shareholders and economically active Ugandans can engage in meaningful conversations about opportunities within Uganda’s financial markets and the broader economy,” Semakula said. “As more Ugandans seek ways to grow their savings and secure their financial futures, we believe access to information and expert insights is critical in helping them make informed investment decisions.”SBG Securities has quickly become a top player in the sector, registering strong year-on-year growth for its assets under management and maintaining market leadership in stock brokerage. This steady upward trajectory serves as solid proof of concept for SUHL’s broader diversification strategy as it seeks to back up its anchor subsidiary, Stanbic Bank, which is celebrating 35 years of operations in Uganda.Dr Mbire’s keynote address will focus on regional economic growth, private sector development, and the strategic role of investments in building long-term wealth. Following the keynote address, a panel discussion under the theme: “Leveraging Financial Markets to Build and Grow Wealth” will ensue. The expert panel includes Samuel Fredrick Mwogeza, Executive Director of Stanbic Bank Uganda, who will unpack actionable strategies for wealth management and estate planning. The panel also includes Pumla Nabachwa, the Team Lead Economist at the Bank of Uganda, who will share perspectives on personal financial management, investment diversification and financial literacy, alongside Daisy Nabakooza, the Director of Supervision and Market Conduct at the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority, who will provide insights into retirement planning and the role of participating in financial markets to national development. Discussions are also expected to touch on the strong synergies between the Bank’s products alongside SBG Securities’ investment solutions that clients can leverage.
