Map of today's active volcanoesTenerife (Canary Islands (Spain)): During the early hours of 22 June 2026, the Canary Islands Seismic Network (INVOLCAN) detected a renewed increase in seismic activity beneath Tenerife. Over the past 12 hours, more than 200 micro-earthquakes of very low magnitude were recorded, bringing the total number of events since 18 June to over 250 earthquakes. The strongest shocks occurred between 02:50 and 03:25 local time, with the largest reaching a magnitude of M 1.3.As in previous episodes, the seismicity is concentrated in the southwestern sector of the Las Cañadas caldera at depths of approximately 10 km. This activity forms part of the recurring seismic unrest observed on Tenerife since 2017. ... [read more] ... [show less] According to INVOLCAN, the seismic swarm is interpreted as the result of a pressurization process within Tenerife’s volcanic-hydrothermal system, likely driven by the injection of magmatic fluids at depth. Similar episodes have been repeatedly observed since 2016 and are supported by several independent geochemical and geophysical indicators, including a long-term increase in diffuse CO₂ emissions in the Teide crater area and subtle ground deformation detected since 2014 in the northeastern sector of the Teide–Pico Viejo volcanic complex. In the selected deformation area, the median LOS displacement is approximately 6.1 cm between 3 and 15 June 2026. This corresponds to a rate of approximately 0.51 cm/day, based on calculations in SNAP and GIS-based applications processed by our volcanologist and remote sensing analyst Martin Kelko.Shiveluch (Kamchatka): (24 Jun) Explosive activity continues. Gas emissions have remained low to moderate, with recent gas measurements and mainland webcam observations confirming only moderate steam and gas emissions from the active vent.Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions have both declined compared to measurements collected on 23 April 2026. ... Accordingly, the Volcanic Alert Level remains at 2 (moderate to heightened unrest) and the Aviation Colour Code remains Yellow. Although no eruption is currently occurring, the activity could resume with little warning. Any future eruptions are expected to primarily affect the crater area and nearby parts of the island, while significant ashfall on the mainland is considered unlikely.Popocatépetl (Central Mexico): Explosive activity continues.
