Version spoofing, a reminder and a testAs mentioned previously, Vivaldi follows Chromium’s Extended Stable Release (ESR) channel, which updates less often than the common stable channel but keeps the same security level. Google offers this channel for organizations that prefer fewer disruptive changes, and it is fully supported and secure.Many sites are unaware of ESR and sometimes warn users that their browser is outdated near the end of an ESR cycle, since the version number lags behind the stable stream. A few sites even block browsers they label as insecure.To avoid this, we added a feature that spoofs a higher version number at the end of an ESR cycle. The first version of this feature leaked the real Chromium version in some cases, but we believe those issues are now fixed.
