Shane Lowry has become the latest high-profile golfer to sack their caddie having missed the cut at the US Open last week.Lowry cut ties with Darren Reynolds following the disaster at Shinnecock Hills and brought Dermot Byrne back into the fold.Shane Lowry has reunited with Dermot Byrne for the Travelers ChampionshipReynolds was Lowry’s caddie when he sunk the winning putt to secure the Ryder Cup last year.Things, though, haven’t quite gone to plan for Lowry since Team Europe’s success in the US last year.Lowry was leading the Cognizant Classic with four holes to go, but ended up finishing two shots behind eventual winner Nicolas Echavarria earlier this year. After failing to make the weekend at the US Open, Lowry said: “It’s tough, but golf is just not agreeing with me at the moment.”Lowry will hope that linking up with a familiar face will boost his chances of a return to form.Byrne and Lowry previously worked together for 10 years earlier in the latter’s career.Byrne most recently held the bag for Leona Maguire until 2024.However, the 39-year-old insists that Byrne is only back for the Travelers Championship. That’s because Lowry needed another caddie at short notice while he admits he has ‘no idea’ on a future bagman.“We’ll see what the plan is going forward. No idea really,” Lowry said.Lowry missed the cut for the US Open last week in what’s been a disappointing season for the IrishmanGettyLowry had previously worked with Bo Martin, who was alongside the Irishman for the 2019 Open Championship success, though the two split in 2023.“I definitely told him I loved him – not so sure that’s the case anymore,” Lowry said last year when reminiscing about his and Martin’s time together Martin, who recently worked with Min Woo Lee, has since switched to Shane Joel.
