The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) has issued a warning after receiving reports of individuals being contacted by fraudsters falsely claiming to represent licensed financial services providers.According to the authority, scammers have been making unsolicited calls offering investment advice and other financial services while pretending to act on behalf of legitimate licence holders.The MFSA is urging consumers to exercise caution and independently verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent a licensed financial entity before sharing information or making any financial decisions.Among its recommendations, the authority advised consumers to confirm the caller’s identity, verify the official communication channels of the company involved, avoid acting under pressure and never share confidential or sensitive information.The regulator also reminded the public not to enter into any financial transaction unless they have confirmed that the company is authorised by the MFSA or another reputable financial services regulator.Consumers are being urged to remain particularly cautious when approached through unconventional channels such as unsolicited phone calls or social media messages.The MFSA said anyone who believes they may be dealing with an unauthorised entity or who suspects they have fallen victim to a financial scam should immediately stop all transactions and contact the authority.Share this to raise awareness!•
