Developer Joseph Portelli has filed plans for a new residential block in Xemxija that would include 30 apartments and six rooftop swimming pools.The application, submitted to the Planning Authority in April, proposes private garages, an office, three ground-floor maisonettes, 30 apartments and six penthouses, each with its own pool.The project is planned for the same road where a separate Portelli-linked development is already under construction.That nearby project made headlines earlier this year after part of the road adjacent to the site collapsed just weeks after a stop-work order had been issued on demolition works.According to Times of Malta, a spokesperson for Portelli said the collapse was caused by water entering natural fissures in the rock.The latest application is still awaiting a recommendation from the Planning Authority.Meanwhile, Enemalta has objected to the proposal, arguing that a planned substation does not meet the requirements needed to provide electricity to the development.The project is the latest in a growing list of major developments proposed for the Xemxija area, with several large residential and mixed-use projects currently planned or under construction.Do you think the area can handle more development?•
