What started as a simple evening walk turned into a rescue mission I’ll never forget. While I was out walking yesterday evening, I came across a remarkably docile siamese cat who didn’t run away as I approached. Instead, she calmly let me pet her, and I immediately knew something wasn’t right. When I took a closer look, I noticed one of her eyes was completely clouded over. I suspected she was either partially or completely blind.I called my sister for help, and she immediately contacted Animal Welfare Malta. They carefully assessed the cat, scanned her for a microchip and checked whether she needed urgent medical attention. After confirming she wasn’t microchipped, they safely secured her in a transport cage and took her in for a full veterinary examination. Before leaving, they even gave me a case reference number so I can follow up on her condition after two days.I honestly can’t thank Animal Welfare Malta enough. Their professionalism, compassion and willingness to help vulnerable animals is something we should all appreciate. This rescue also comes during an unusual week. Just a few days earlier, my sister found another Siamese cat, making this the second similar rescue we’ve been involved in within the same week.To protect both cats, we’ve deliberately kept the locations where they were found private. Animal Welfare Malta explained that this helps prevent false ownership claims, as people sometimes come forward claiming animals that aren’t theirs, including breeders looking to obtain pedigree cats for free.Animal Welfare Malta also told me that there’s a possibility both cats had been abandoned by breeders. They explained that the cat I found may have been dumped because of her clouded eye and suspected blindness, while the other Siamese cat found earlier this week may have been abandoned because of its mixed coat, which doesn’t meet the appearance breeders typically look for. While this cannot be confirmed, Animal Welfare said these are possibilities based on the cats’ conditions and characteristics. If you find any similar cases, do not hesitate to contact Animal Welfare on 22924132.I wanted to share this video to recognise the amazing work Animal Welfare Malta does every single day. Their quick response ensured this cat received the care she desperately needed.Sometimes all it takes is stopping during an evening walk to change an animal’s life.
