A building scaffolding collapsed in Reggie Miller Street, Gżira earlier today, prompting a response from the Civil Protection Department (CPD) and other emergency services. The CPD has since confirmed that no injuries were reported at the scene of the incident. One eyewitness, Beatrice Collet, described the terrifying moments after hearing what she said was a “huge boom” while walking along the street.“I looked up and saw the entire scaffolding collapse, with limestone dust and debris flying everywhere. It was a terrifying sight,” Collet recalled. She said she immediately called the police to alert them to the incident and ensure the road was closed off, believing it posed a serious danger to both pedestrians and motorists.Having lived in Malta for 12 years, Collet said she was saddened to witness yet another construction-related incident, arguing that the country has already seen several serious and fatal accidents linked to building sites over the years.“It’s simply unacceptable that this continues to happen,” she said, calling for stronger construction safety standards and better enforcement to prevent more lives from being put at risk. What do you make of this incident?•
