Undefeated in her first two starts, Luster (Knicks Go) was handed her first defeat in last month's Ruling Angel Stakes–her first try on the Tapeta. Rectifying that Saturday, she picked up her first graded stakes win, taking the GIII Selene Stakes at Woodbine for trainer Josie Carroll.Facing several familiar rivals, the 7-5 favorite enjoyed an inside run on this stretch back out to 1 1/16 miles. Breaking from the inside portion, Luster had early speed but opted to take back slightly and let the outside runners overtake her around the clubhouse turnA joint third up the backstretch, she began to just inch her way forward around the half-mile pole, saved all the ground into the stretch in pursuit of loose leader Tulip (Flameaway) and drove past that rival to the front with a sixteenth to run. A pair of rivals closed in late but Luster was safely home to earn the win.“She's got quite a turn of foot, maybe a Ferrari,” said winning rider Fraser Aebly when asked about his filly's run in the stretch. “I truly think she really wants to go two turns. We watched it on the grass. She was very impressive at Keeneland.”Pedigree Note:Luster is the second graded stakes winner for Knicks Go whose oldest foals are still just 3-year-olds. Her unraced dam has a perfect four-for-four record of winners from runners and is herself a half-sister to MGSP Swear by It (Broken Vow). Her 2-year-old colt, Whatsyoursismine (Frac Daddy), is on the work tab at Woodbine. She was bred to Harlocap for this year but has not reported a foal. A sparkling win from LUSTER ($4.90) in the $150,000 Selene Stakes (G3) at @WoodbineTB.
