Samsung MX chief TM Roh has reportedly traveled to China to meet leaders of Chinese display panel manufacturers BOE and TCL CSOT. Apparently, the South Korean firm wants to source OLED and LCD panels from those companies for its mid-range smartphones and TVs.Samsung could buy OLED panels from BOE and LCD TV panels from TCL CSOTA report from ZDNet Korea claims that TM Roh visited BOE’s headquarters in Beijing yesterday to meet Chairman Chen Yanshun and discuss the supply of flexible OLED panels for Samsung’s budget and mid-range smartphones, such as those in the Galaxy A seriesBOE is known to offer OLED panels at lower prices than Samsung Display. So, if the two companies reach an agreement, Samsung may be able to bring a more uniform and thinner bezel design to Galaxy A series phones. If we’re reading between the lines, it could also mean that the Galaxy S27 series will continue to use LTPO OLED panels from Samsung Display.Today, TM Roh is scheduled to visit TCL’s office in Shenzhen to meet the company’s executives, including Chairman Li Dongsheng, to discuss the supply of LCD panels for Samsung TVs.While Samsung uses QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display and WRGB OLED panels from LG Display in its OLED TVs, it relies on TCL CSOT’s LCD panels for its QLED, Neo QLED, and Micro RGB TVs.Through this trip, TM Roh is reportedly looking to strengthen Samsung’s display supply chain and reduce costs, making the company’s products either more profitable or more competitively priced.
