On May 13, 2012, cops in Burbank, Illinois, entered an apartment and discovered a grisly scene: a bride in her gold sequined wedding dress, lying dead in a bathtub, covered in stab wounds. This was 26-year-old Estrella Carrera, who had tied the knot at Chicago City Hall with Arnold Jiminez (now 44) the day before she was discovered dead. The investigation learned that after the wedding, the newlyweds had celebrated at a nightclub and returned to their apartment in the early hours of the morning. On May 13, Jiminez is said to have told friends that he and Carrera fought on their wedding night, alleging she hit him and that she became injured. That friend told the cops, who performed a wellness check and discovered her body. Further investigations discovered bloodstains, glass shards, and broken jewellery inside Jiminez’s Maserati, with detectives theorizing Carrera was attacked inside the car and then moved to the bathtub. Cops immediately began trying to track down Jiminez, and a federal arrest warrant was issued on May 16, 2012 when he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. And, until now, he had for all intents and purposes vanished. Jiminez returns to the United States Now, 14 long years later, Jiminez is in US custody. On June 18, the FBI announced that: Today marks an important milestone for #FBIChicago — our personnel have successfully brought back @FBIMostWanted fugitive, Arnoldo Jimenez, from Mexico. The FBI thanks our partners at FBI Legat Mexico City, La Agencia de Investigación Criminal-INTERPOL, and Burbank Police Department for their valued work throughout this case. Jimenez was wanted in connection with the murder of Estrella Carrera who was found deceased less than 48 hours after their wedding. No matter how much time has passed or where a criminal may be in the world, the FBI will never stop in our pursuit of justice.” Jiminez is said to have fled to Mexico shortly after his wedding and spent years on the run. He was finally arrested in Mexico in January 2025 and is now in custody. As of writing, there is no indication of a bail application, a preliminary hearing date, or an arraignment.
