Puttarangashetty, on Monday.The new facility was inaugurated with the aim of promoting reading and supporting aspirants of competitive examinations.The library, located on the premises of the Block Education Officer’s office, has been constructed jointly by the Department of Public Libraries, Bengaluru, the district administration, the Zilla Panchayat and the District Central Library.After inaugurating the building, Mr. Puttarangashetty inspected the newspaper reading room, book repository, lift and auditorium. He said the modern library fulfilled a long-pending demand of book lovers in the district. The project was funded with ₹1 crore from the Department of Public Libraries and ₹2 crore from the special grants (6%) of urban local bodies.The library houses 6,080 books and has been established in the heart of the city to serve students, researchers, book lovers and the general public. While about 95% of the construction work has been completed, additional funds are required for the compound wall and other infrastructure.Mr. Puttarangashetty said efforts would be made to mobilise funds through CSR initiatives and the MSIL to complete the remaining works.On the district’s educational growth, the MLA said the establishment of medical, engineering, law and agriculture colleges had strengthened infrastructure for higher education in Chamarajanagar, and the new library would provide an ideal platform for students preparing for competitive examinations.
