Tallinja Says Bus Driver Was Not At Fault In Serious Mosta Crash

Tallinja has said that the bus driver who was critically injured in a serious collision in Mosta earlier this month was not responsible for the crash.In a statement issued on earlier today, Malta Public Transport said it had reviewed CCTV footage from onboard the bus as part of an internal investigation into the incident.According to the company, the footage showed the driver was travelling in the correct lane and at the correct speed before the collision occurred.“The footage indicates that our driver was not at fault in the accident, since he was driving in the correct lane at the correct speed before the collision,” the statement read.“Unfortunately, the accident could not have been prevented by our bus driver.”The company said its priority in recent days had been the driver’s recovery and confirmed that the 49-year-old is now in a stable condition and continues to receive medical care.The crash happened on 18th June in Triq Żejfa, Mosta, and involved a bus, an Isuzu delivery truck and three other vehicles.Following the impact, the bus rolled backwards, striking three vehicles before crashing into a traffic barrier and coming to a stop on the pavement outside a residence.Both the bus driver and the truck driver suffered serious injuries and were taken to Mater Dei Hospital.A magisterial inquiry into the incident remains ongoing.•
