I assume if she had just posted notice of graduation she would have gotten a lot more congratulations. She probably would have gotten a lot more gifts as well. People want to be generous when celebrating a person's accomplishments, they don't want to be asked to contribute to a fundraiser. I will side a little bit with The mom though because at some point you just cut people out of your life who are not reciprocal friends. This is not exactly that situation because of what I said previously but it's totally fine to just stop including people in your life that don't reciprocate
