Alan Brazil has claimed two different sources have revealed Manchester City’s potential Financial Fair Play (FFP) punishment to him.The Premier League giants have been found guilty of all charges against them, it was announced last week.City are facing unprecedented sanctions unless they can get the verdict overturnedGettyHowever, City have since appealed against the ruling, delaying the start of the sanction hearing.Amid the wait for any possible punishments, legendary talkSPORT host Brazil has hinted he could know what is to come.Brazil ‘reveals’ City sanctionsAccording to the former Scotland forward, Enzo Maresca’s side are in line for a sizeable points deduction.Brazil admits he has no idea when the alleged sanction could be handed out, though.Discussing City’s predicament with Ally McCoist on Wednesday’s Breakfast show, Brazil revealed: “I’m hearing a 60-point deduction, which will please people and still give City a chance of surviving.“I don’t know whether it’s this season. I can’t see how that can be this season because of the timing, when they get it through it’ll be too late.“Is it next season? But they are talking about a 60-point deduction.”In a potential boost to City fans, though, Brazil added that it could simply be ‘nonsense’ that he has been told.Meanwhile, McCoist is doubtful a 60-point penalty would be a strong enough sanction for City’s offences. He replied: “I think a lot of people wouldn’t think that’s enough. Obviously we’ll have to wait and see how this appeal goes.City could be set for a 60-point deduction, according to Brazil’s ‘sources’Getty“If they didn’t win the appeal, I think people would be looking for a stronger punishment than that.”As for whether a 60-point deduction would guarantee relegation, McCoist added: “I’m not sure it would guarantee (relegation).“You’d have to say it probably would (mean City were relegated). If you’re staying up with maybe 37, 38, 39 points, it would make it a challenge, put it that way.”What sanctions could City actually face?Any potential punishment for City remains months away following their appeal against the ruling.Premier League rules require the appeal hearing to take place within 12 weeks. It must last a maximum of five days, with the decision to be given within 30 days.City fans are anxiously awaiting the outcome of their sanction hearingGettyFootball finance expert Kieran Maguire listed the potential punishments which could be in store for City earlier this month. He told talkSPORT: “As far as the outcome is concerned, I think we’ve got to look at precedent.“Chelsea were given significant fines from both the Football Association (and remember, the Football Association might take this up later) and from the Premier League for around £20m over their financial misdemeanours, not registering payments to unauthorised agents and so on.“So you would expect that to be quite significant. Also, it was noticeable in the Chelsea claim that the club agreed to pay the Premier League legal costs, which were quite substantial. These are going to be far bigger.“So we’re probably talking about £50m-£60m in all probability, plus a substantial fine.“Then, of course, we’ve got the precedent of Nottingham Forest, Everton, and Leicester City, all of whom breached the PSR limits and were given points deductions.City’s appeal against the Premier League’s ruling has delayed any potential punishmentsGetty“Now, the logic behind that is that if you spend more money on players, it gives you an advantage on the pitch, and that advantage on the pitch should be punished with a punishment on the pitch in the form of a points deduction.“Given that the Man City offences took place over a longer period of time, therefore it’s multiple offences over multiple years, you would expect a multiple of the points deductions that we’ve seen.“We don’t know by how much Man City exceeded the PSR limits, and we’re now working on the basis of reading some of the former reports that it works out as a three-point deduction to kick off with, plus one extra point per extra £6.5m over the limit. So that will form a rough basis.“And then there’s a further issue, have you assisted with the investigation? We’ll suggest they probably haven’t.“So that’s called an aggravating factor, and the panel could subsequently give an additional points deduction on top of that.“If all of those are proven post-appeal, my gut reaction is we would be looking for somewhere in the region of perhaps 50 to 60 points. If it’s more than 70 points, they’re effectively relegated.City fans could be waiting around four months to discover their fateGetty“From a drama point of view, and I appreciate the commission’s not interested in the drama, you give Man City a 50-point deduction, they go to minus 35, there are 33 matches left to play for, you’ve actually got a fantastic story because they could try and stay up.“They could just about stay up and I think the attitude of the players and everything would be fascinating, but that’s a Hollywood story, rather than, is that appropriate?”
