Alan Shearer has predicted what will happen when Tottenham Hotspur travel to Man United on Saturday, and Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi’s jobs may not be safe.Spurs have had a poor start to the season, having just two points on board in their first five matches, which means that they now sit at rock bottom. The pressure is undoubtedly mounting on De Zerbi, but Tottenham have been quick to dismiss suggestions that his future at the club could be at risk.In the club’s recent meeting with the Fan Advisory Board, Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham insisted that he has been encouraged by aspects of the team’s performance, and that he is confident the Italian can turn results around.Credit: @gragrapix / InstagramTottenham and Man United Premier League head-to-headMatchesUnited winsDrawsSpurs winsUnited goalsSpurs goals6840151311471SeasonDateVenueResultTottenham outcome2025/267 Feb 2026Old TraffordMan Utd 2-0 TottenhamLoss2024/2529 Sep 2024Old TraffordMan Utd 0-3 TottenhamWin2023/2414 Jan 2024Old TraffordMan Utd 2-2 TottenhamDraw2022/2319 Oct 2022Old TraffordMan Utd 2-0 TottenhamLoss2021/2212 Mar 2022Old TraffordMan Utd 3-2 TottenhamLoss2020/214 Oct 2020Old TraffordMan Utd 1-6 TottenhamWin2019/204 Dec 2019Old TraffordMan Utd 2-1 TottenhamLoss2018/1927 Aug 2018Old TraffordMan Utd 0-3 TottenhamWin2017/1828 Oct 2017Old TraffordMan Utd 1-0 TottenhamLoss2016/1711 Dec 2016Old TraffordMan Utd 1-0 TottenhamLossTottenham’s record at Old Trafford vs Man UnitedAlan Shearer insists Tottenham ‘cannot afford another slip-up’ against Man UtdWhile all eyes are on Man City’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday, Shearer believes that it is the clash at Old Trafford that is the most consequential fixture of the weekend. He suggested Tottenham simply cannot afford to lose again, suggesting that De Zerbi will come under scrutiny, given the money he spent to strengthen the squad in the summer.Shearer told Betfair (as relayed by The Metro): “I know you’ve got Liverpool versus Manchester City, which everyone’s going to have eyes on for obvious reasons, but I think in terms of the size of the result, this is the biggest one of the weekend.“If either club were to lose in whatever fashion they were to lose, then it could determine someone’s job. Unfortunately, I think it’s that big a game in that matter. It is a difficult question to answer on who this game means more to, I guess there’s an argument for both clubs because of what Spurs have spent, because of what Man United didn’t spend, and could have spent.“So, there’s an argument to say it’s huge game for both football clubs and for both managers because you can imagine the pressure that will be ramped up if, in whatever way, either team were to lose the game.“Spurs can’t afford to slip up again. I think being at bottom of the league and they spent a fortune and they’re not playing good football. They brought players in to try and change what happened last year and the year before and they’re in a worse position at the minute. De Zerbi would have been chomping at the bit to have a game but also it would have got him to work with a few more of his players, albeit there would be a lot away on international duty.“So, it’s a massive game for Spurs and for Man United. De Zerbi did a great job, didn’t he, last year, in keeping them up in the style that he did and clearly, as part of that, he got the contract he wanted and he got them spending a fortune on players that he wanted and demanded because he had huge power and in a huge position of strength, but he needs to get results now. I guess he’ll be the first to tell you that he’ll need to get results and he needs to get them quickly.”Photo by SpursWebShearer backs Spurs to emerge with a draw from Old TraffordThe Newcastle legend believes that a heavy defeat for the Lilywhites on Saturday could force the club’s hierarchy into a decision on De Zerbi’s future. However, he expects Tottenham to avoid defeat, predicting that the two sides could play out a high-scoring draw. The 56-year-old added: “It really depends on the manner of the results as to what action the Spurs board might potentially take in the near future, as at the moment it’s not okay. No one wants to lose games, but I guess it’s the manner and how you lose them or your manner how you don’t win them, which is the standout.“There have been little glimpses of improvement and we will have to see what reaction they get at the weekend, but he’ll know and everyone else knows that he needs a result. He can’t afford to play Man United and be beaten 2 or 3-0, that’s for sure.”When pressed to predict the result, he said: “I think it’ll probably be a score draw. I think it could be 1-1 or 2-2, which I guess is a better result for the away team than it is for the home team.”READ MORE: Micky van de Ven and 11 Tottenham teammates spotted at Hotspur Way ahead of Man United clashThe post Alan Shearer predicts Man United vs Tottenham score in clash that ‘could determine someone’s job’ appeared first on Spurs Web.
